His general play was limited creating nothing for his outside backs. 


The covering dive he made was allround poor technique- 

and he never looked like he was going to gather the ball cleanly at any stage . 


The try was a routine catch, but he just looks of the pace of the game. 

He does not have the hands to play at 12. 

He seems to be slower than what he was when he had 2 games for the Boks.

He's had at least one serious knee injury if I recall correctly. Definitely slower than he was before that.

 What absolute nonsense.He beat a winger, Ndungane in that chase for the ball and only badluck prevented him saving the day. Wake up Sharkbokkie ! Good outing by Taute.

Taute is very slow. If you watch the chase again at 17:30 minute Ndunagane slowed down to kick the ball hence why Taute got to the ball first.  

It wasn't a good outing by Taute at all, he failed to create opportunities and break the line. I watched virtually all Taute's performances at WP and Stormers, in most matches he plays below standard and this match was no different. Clumsy player with no skills .

For the Boks he ran good lines and was a good communicator. His defence was okay but overall not a spectacular player. But I will say that he was the one of the more natural outside centres we've fielded under Meyer, much better than JJ. It was a shame JJ got so many chances yet Taute was discarded after one poor game. Even more of a shame that de Jongh was discarded after a fine EOYT when he plugged our defence nicely. B ack to Taute, I have seen precious little of note over the last few years. I think we can safely say he is done.

 I watched the Stormers game again yesterday.
Their outside center is a class act. Totally forgot his name.

Each time he had the ball in hand, hwe wrecked havoc.

Perhaps Saf has some inside info on him? No doubt he had his eye on this fella since he was in pre primary.

Huw Jones, who went to Millfield here in England....studying at UCT, so chances are he will be returning to England soon.


He is a quality player.....late developer by all accounts.....did not play regularly for the Millfield first team......one of the best rugby schools in the UK

 Problem is that Huw Jones showed JP Pietersen up badly and that is one issue that needs to be addressed.  Pietersen is no 13 - the sooner people realize that the better.

 The problem of the Stormers backline on Saturday was that not one of the players this year ever played together as a backline.   Taute played a few games in the Vodacom Cup team and so did Howard, but not in the positions they had to play on Saturday.   Du Preez was the player of the series in the Vodacom Cup competition - but played at flyhalf or 12.   Jones and Kotze were part of the Super 15 squad when Kotze was not injured and Van Wyk was in the same situation.  
To put that combination together as a backline was looking for a disaster and Taute at 12 was very poor .  He is just not a 12.  Where I do agree is that since leaving the Lions Taute's rugby has been on the way down.  Something has gone wrong seriously with him during his time at the Stormers.
