After licking his backside white to get Fourie to come back to the Springbok squad, Meyer got his just reward. Fourie turned up at the Springbok squad in shocking physical condition. He obviously cannot even keep up with rehab development programmes and the following report indicates the result:-
"Springbok centre Jaque Fourie has been sent back to his club in Japan to regain full fitness. After retiring from international rugby last year, the 32-year-old was picked in Heyneke Meyer’s first Springbok squad of the year after the national coach convinced him to reconsider his decision to call time on his Springbok career.
Fourie though is not fit for the rigours of international rugby and the decision was made for him to withdraw from the Bok squad and return to his club, the Kobelco Steelers.
Meyer had a meeting with Fourie on Tuesday, where a mutual decision was taken that he would return to Japan to regain his fitness and get game time.
“He decided to withdraw from the Springbok squad for now, but we agreed that the door is still open for him to be selected for the Rugby World Cup if he is needed,” Meyer said on Wednesday.
Fourie played 72 Tests for the Springboks after making his debut against Uruguay at the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia. His last Test was against France in Paris in November 2013."
Fourie at the age of 31 in 2013 in the middle of the Japanese club season was not in sound physical condition and was seriously deficient in pace. From an attacking perspective he was worth minus-zero. If he could get to ball carriers he did make his tackles.
To get Fourie at the age of 33 back into shape for international rugby will be a virtual impossibility - he may be able to play "soft" rugby in Japan - but is unlikely to even be in a shape required from a CC center.
I think from the wording of the article and what Meyer said the chances are that even Meyer gave up on him and there is a 1% chance of him being called up to join the squad in future.
Mozart and his age and reputation addicts must be in despair about what happened in this case.
