I am leaving this site
Sheesh talk about fucking with the bull and getting the stupid cow!!!!!!!!
What is crystal clear is snapster was yanking a few chains and got the rise. Bwahahahahahahahaha. The oaks were then embarassed by being taken in and now are making complete twits of themselves by arguing snapster was being serious. Hahahahahahahhahaha talk about digging a deeper hole for yourself!
ou maaaike take no note of Bok Logic's comments re your value to the board - he is having an adolescent moment or two! BL ou maaaikie is one of our most valued posters.Cloudy I am still recovering from the shock re your comment about my friend hacked waaaagh! Great guy of course but has delusions about Katie for one thing and the abs for another.
The only place where it may denote humour by itself is when used like this!!!!!!!!111
And that has a similar to origin to leetspeak, which was internet relay chat.
And if one use IRC as source for rules on grammar, JU57 480U7 |-|4LF 0R M0R3 0F 73H P30PL3 WU|> 57ru88|3 70 UN|>3r574n|> WH47 73H 07H3R |5 54y|n8!!!!11
Well obviously it is the context in which it is used.....good God, I really do give up around here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
( enough exasperated exclamation marks for you, Cloudy ? )
And the point is, when writing or texting, one has to JUDGE the context, doesn't one ? Because one is not listening to the cadence in the voice/tone
Oh please becs ... get a grip!!!
If indeed what your saying is true and not merely being a good friend to Stupid, then it's something that is only used, understood and accepted in the UK or for that matter England.
Don't get your panties in a knot cause the rest of the planet has no idea what the hell you poms are on about.
There is a perfectly good definition of an exclamation mark found in any dictionary and I'll have you know, no mention of it ever being used to show that the user was only kidding.
Just like the "tongue in cheek" nonsense of yours.
Why not simply speak your mind and save us all the hassle of constantly having to break code every time you post something.
Brilliant Becs, shut these stupid ignorant pricks up.
More than anything why on earth would I make it up.......what would be the point of that exactly?
Got to love the way a bunch of ignorant twats living in the bush find that they are in a position to dictate what is or is not common practice in another country.
And we wonder why Saffa's are perceived as arrogant?
I just love the fact that I am now TOLD that I reside in the North of England....Leeds or Liverpool, one or t'other
It's come as quite a shock to the system I can tell thee....oops, that gave the game away, me speaking all Northern there for a minute !!
Seriously, I just despair !
I'll explain one last time, we use the exclamation mark exactly the way Saffex described. Even Ceradyne has given you the usage way back up there....in the vernacular we drop the brackets, when using correct grammar we have to use them. But in a text, we would not, nor on a website such as this. See, that explain it all nice and clear for you ?
Nope, I'm sure you'll still say it's a load of old cobblers, won't you ? Ah well...I tried
Oh and yes, the love letters that pass between Saffex and I are truly a wonder to behold, poi-e. One day, I might collate them into a book...it would truly become a best-seller
So all the insults that have been thrown around that ended with "!" were in fact a joke.
We are really much more polite that I had realised!
Becs you are going to support Saffex no matter what.Saffex could say the Sky was red, and you would be here 30 minutes later to back him up.
! is conventionally used to make an exclamation. It is to highlight a point and bring attention to the reader.
It has allready been stated above that the English Oxford dictionary has this definition, but no mention of it being used to denote humour. Are you now saying that the Oxford Dictionary is wrong?
If it is "Init Bruv" chav Talk, then this does not count.
A type of slang so to speak.
Sorry becs but that is pure, unadulterated bullshit.
You and Dave aren't exactly helping your cause by implying that we are a bunch of backwater Yarpies who don't know any better. I know what an exclamation mark is used for and before you dish out any more tripe about how English people use it differently, my wife is English and she and I both have loads of family in England in a variety of different places. We communicate with all these people several times a week through e-mails and social media. I read English books, English newspapers, English magazines and I have also spent literally years on internet message boards and forums with lot of English people and none of them use the exclamation mark for anything other than it's general use . . . to show strong feeling or high volume.
You and Dave are the only people I've ever known who use it to indicate that a joke has been made so please, spare me this condescending rubbish that all English people use it in that sense but I'm just a stupid Yarpie who doesn't know any better.
The fact that Dave is going to these ridiculous (and frankly embarrassing) lengths to try and make the rest of us look like fools who don't understand basic punctuation makes me wonder about his opening post. If he'd just said he was joking about leaving the site I could have accepted that but all this utter nonsense about the exclamation mark is making me wonder if his opening post wasn't in fact just a pitiful little cry for attention.
If that is the case, then it would seem that Dave started this thread because he was taking a beating on the issue of JJ Engelbrecht's weak tackling and instead of admitting he was making a dick of himself on the subject, he threatened to leave instead, hoping that he'd get a few people begging him to stay and telling him how wonderful he is and how much he knows about tackling in rugby. Only a handful of people told him what he wanted to hear and that's when he decided it was a just a joke and started all this rubbish about the exclamation mark.
Now you and Dave can disagree with me, call me names and do whatever else you want to do, but if you're just going to repeat the same nonsense about how people in England use the exclamation mark differently to everyone else on the planet, then rather don't waste my time . . . because you're talking bollocks and everyone knows it.
You know what Rooi, you really are a prick. You are one of those blokes you meet in person and walk away thinking what a great guy only to discover that in fact you are a backstabber.
The difference between you and I is that I would never initiate an attack on you out of respect for you and the person I thought you were.
Fuck you and despite your connections, I and do use the ! for the very purpose I stated.
Beating re JJ's defence, what bullshit, funny the stats seem to tell me you are speaking shit
This is an award winning thread , comedy value is up there with the best.
There should be a poll - who is convinced ?
One wonders what to conclude though from his own former nick...."Jalapeño!". That exclamation mark would... um.....seem to me....to be best interpreted as a bad attempt at indicating humour.
Which seems to fully support Dave 's point. Could this be, I fear it is.....game, set and match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No need to thank me Dave, but if I say so myself it is a rather brilliant conclusion to the string!
Saffex!, you seem to be under the impression that if two people have an enjoyable drink together that it means they're never allowed to disagree or criticise one another ever again. If you thought that meeting we had three or four years ago means I'm going to support you through thick and thin and pretend that you aren't behaving like a foul-mouthed and boorish oaf then you pegged me wrong.
I actually have bitten my tongue and shut up on a few occasions out of respect for you but you make it very difficult to stand up for you when you argue like a semi-literate neanderthal with Tourettes Syndrome and tell everyone who doesn't agree with you that they're a "f*cking thick prick".
It's even harder when you say really stupid stuff like Elton Jantjies was brilliant in this year's S15, or Francois Hougaard's form didn't drop this year or this latest delusion you have that JJ Englebrecht is a test quality defender and then tell everyone who disagrees that they're a f*cking idiot who doesn't know anything about rugby.
I have to say, I find it quite difficult to reconcile the memory of the easy-going, funny and friendly guy I had a drink with all that time ago with the coarse, rude and obstinate person I see posting on here as Saffex. Chalk and cheese is all I can say.
Yes, I know, I'll even say it for you . . . f*ck me, I'm a prick . . . I know how it goes.
Firstly, I have certainly NEVER called anyone any names on this thread and I do not use that term you have used here, Rooinek. You should know me better than that. I don't agree with people using names like that and you should know it.
Secondly, you are all most deluded if you think I agree with Saffex on most things. I certainly do not. In fact, I would say, and with all honesty, that we disagree on a variety of topics on a regular basis. I wish we didn't spend as much time arguing as we sometimes do, but I suppose it gives me an insight into what it might be like to be married, something I won't ever get to experience ( !!!! )
Lastly, I'm afraid you are all wrong if you do not know that an exclamation mark can be, and is, used in this way. I don't care if you have not come across the usage yourselves before, it is used that way. As Ceradyne has posted above, it is one of the uses of the exclamation mark ! Go back and read his thread for goodness sake !
I am sure some of you even studied it in English Grammar way back when, but have probably forgotten it.
I am not going to be called names simply for agreeing with Saffex when he is actually right about something. And this time, he is !
As I said, I don't care if you have once visited Scunthorpe on holiday, if one of your relatives brought a book in a flea market in Basingstoke or if you actually have an English Spouse and they all say this isn't so. They are wrong in this instance.
And Hello Blobbok . Hope you're ok
BTW pretty sure I've read more than one post with a similar opinion as mine...but you already know that right, you've read every post on the silly hoo haa thread too
like u i think its stupid that jj englebrechett isnt being utilized properly, but unlike u i dont mind too much, cos meyer has ensured the All blacks spot as the number one rugby empire wont be under threat from anything from SA.
i love seeing chubby fourie back in 13 to partner with no clue on attack JDV, its freaking awesome.
i also think the defesive issues of jj has been blown way out of proportion, understandable though, cos the Bok fans are a proud bunch, and getting slapped silly by the All Blacks year in and year out has gotta be tough to swallow, hence the cannibalization of the Bok fans amongst themselves, Bok players are always being feasted on by one group or another.
till there is perfect synergy like those in the NZ camp, expect nothing to change, except the gap between the All Blacks and the rest of the world.
Having us on would be to say Meyer has resigned or JJ leaves for Japan or something like that..Not his feel sorry for myself little dribble above. He just sobered up and realised that he cant stay away..
You and I did the same some time ago and I regret that as it served no purpose. This board is what it is, but when you meet a poster in person it adds a layer or two.
I wont be losing any sleep over it.......people make their choices and need to live by them.
I swear, so fucking what. Does it make me a lesser person, no - it adds colour!
Best of all why on earth would I make this whole thing about about the !
As I expected and Rooi pointed out, you are not the same in person as you are over the net..I knew it would be impossible for you to speak the way you do to ppl in real life as you do over here and Rooi confirmed you are in fact chalk and cheese.. A real cowboy on here.
Why dont you treat ppl the same on here as you would in person and get your point across in a non-neanderthal way.
Swearing adds clour my arse..Do that in person and the only colour it will add is to both your eyes.
Now Dave, now that the cat is out the bag and it has been confirmed that you are a pussy, are you going to make an effort to be more objective on this board?
