Not everybody can be fixed. He is a small bodied fellow in the most important defensive position on the team. Nuff said, but I do share your frustrations.

JJ's defence today was shockingly poor and the rest of his performance was equally so. He is at 1,91 meter and 97 kgs not a small bodied man - he is bigger and heavier than Conrad Smith and his size has nothing to do with it. What is appropriate is how he performs and he definitely was way below par today.
JJ to my mind is a wing that never really adjusted to play at center.

Definitely NOT small bodied but as Mallet and Beeno have been saying he is a wing playing center.

He is lighter for his height. Very narrow in the body, small bones. Not built for power, Conrad has a more sturdy frame. JJ is an ectomorphic wing.

yts easier to defend on the wing. His defence would be okay there as it was before the bulle moved him to center.

Small boned - too slim for his height - all so professional. Donkey brain can judge from TV whether a player is narrow in the body with small bones. The only player meeting that description spot on is Matfield.

I thought Speight beating Pollard with a simple step and acceleration, no dummy runner, no stiff arm and then stiff arming Odendaal was worse.
Pollard has to insert himself more into the game. His leadership of the back line has gone missing the last few games, not even dictating the territorial game. I think he got the ball only twice at first receiver from broken play. Contrast that with Lealifano who is always popping up looking for the ball and looking to make something happen.
For me - the Bulls lost that game at 9 and 10 where they were outplayed.
And how many times is Basson just going to run straight into touch or get bundled out. Needs to run some inside angles, retain possession.

My own impression was the match was lost up front. The balls coming the Bulls way was poor and very difficult to make something out of. The problem remains with the Bulls props - they were not up to standard again.
Then there is one thing that the Bulls have still not learnt and that is not to kick balls away aimlessly. It is better to keep balls in hand then to donate it to the opposition and I am sad to see that Pollard is guilty of that as well. He was always more enterprising - but that is fading away as he becomes more inclined to just pass the balls and far too often kicks it away and hand over possession to the opposition. However, that is the Bulls way of playing and it seems to have become stuck in him as well.

Apart from one scrum that cracked inwards....Sio dominated Marcel. How many scrums does vd Merwe complete where he isn't upright? Hilariously he seems to push best when he is belly to belly with the opposition.
I thought Pollard was late on the tackle but the commentators made the point that Speith had violated the offside line before the ball was passed and was right into that gap.
The Bools weakness is they cant scrum, they can't fetch against a master like Pocock.....and they have no creativity in the centres.. Basson and JJ are in fact weaknesses, Hougaard has lost form on the wing....their loosies are without skill. Labuschagne is much less effective than Stegman.
All the predicted chickens are coming home to roost.

JJ is and always will be an average player I'm afraid and as for Pollard? One good half against the ABs last year looks like all he'll be remembered for. The Boks are going to have BIG problems finding any sort of acceptable backline in the foreseeable future!!

Pollard is a good player, by far the best 10 in SA right now. He will be fine with the Boks. However, we will need Morné in the squad, he gives you experience and calm authority as well as tactical kickers. All attributes the so called experts dismiss. Going into the WC with Pollard alone without Morné will be an enormous gamble. The EOYT was a final warning!

Well this was an accident waiting to happen. The only thing that amazes me is we have gone so far in the season before the JJ weakness was clearly exploited. Goes to show you how long flawed players can linger before they are definitively exposed.

Sure Morne lingered for 4 years before he was finally exposed in 2014 in the Perth test - exposure was always there - but forgiven by Meyer. Fransie - fat slow and marginally fit - is exposed in every match and there are duds on this site still punting him. And then we have Matfield holidaying in the backline while others must do the work in the engine room - also exposed as useless on a continuous basis.
I agree JJ is not up to standard - but what about the other three??????????

So Blue you want to judge JJ on being beaten on the outside and being handed off as him having a defensive issue when prior to that, he had one of if not the best defensive stats of all centres in the comp in total.

Saffman, if you read what I said you'll notice it was all just in the heat of the moment! He had just handed victory, or at least helped hand victory, to the Brumbies. I was just venting because my team lost!! Although, his defense was shart on that occasion .
