The following from news24:-
"Munster coach and the (then) South African Rugby Union’s High Performance Director, Rassie Erasmus, agreed to the Springbok job in 2016, but his rugby coaching skills and expertise were secondary to self-serving and self-protecting leadership decisions.

Transformation is the easy cop out as to why Allister Coetzee was named Springbok coach in 2016. It is also not necessarily accurate because the devil is always in the detail and the detail of this transaction was devoid of integrity and morality. It also had nothing to do with a rugby coaching decision.

A more accurate reason would be gutless leadership and irresponsible decision-making of the game’s leadership.

Here’s how the situation played out in 2015.    Heyneke Meyer was promised a four-year extension as Springbok coach, regardless of the outcome of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. This decision was made as early as April 2015.

Meyer’s Boks then imploded in the 2015 Rugby Championship where they didn’t win a game and they lost at home to Argentina.

Meyer’s Boks were seen as white and dinosaurs and typically the World Cup allowed for the lack of Springbok black player representation to be translated as a lack of transformation in South African rugby.

It also allowed for the government to take aim at a losing white-dominated Bok team. Meyer was an easy target.

SARU’s leadership, apathetic for two decades in enforcing tangible transformation, sacrificed Meyer, and their only survival as a leadership was to promise the government (by way of the Minister of Sport) that Meyer’s successor would not be white.

Enter Coetzee as the leadership’s new-found commitment to transformation.

Enter all the propaganda about a transformed Springbok future on the basis of 13 players of colour in an extended squad of 31.

Enter another of those transformation lies because when the Boks beat Ireland in Port Elizabeth, 12 white players were on the field at the final whistle. When they lost to the All Blacks in Durban there were also minimal black players on the field. Coetzee failed to meet his transformation targets in two thirds of the season’s Tests and the Boks also lost two thirds of these Tests.

Coetzee blamed everyone and everything but himself for the horror season.

There was - and never has been - any accountability for the appointment and the reasons behind the appointment. There has also been no consequence to those who made the appointment.

Coetzee remains because there was no performance-based clause in his contract and because to pay out the remaining three years of his contract would cost R13 million.

He remains the Bok coach and so do those who made the business decision to give him the job for four years.

South African rugby loyalist is if they can’t afford to get rid of mediocrity (in Coetzee) then they can’t afford to invest in excellence (in Erasmus). Munster would have to be paid out for Erasmus' remaining two years and Erasmus would have to be paid as Bok coach.

Money is now the reason. Transformation, a year ago, was the reason. Rugby is never the reason. Those making these absurd business decisions are never the reason.

Enough!

Who made the original decisions?

Why the secrecy? Why no transparent audit?

The answer is because elected officials govern and destroy. Our rugby burns while these emperors appear oblivious to their naked state.

It is disgusting because if rugby was the primary motivator then the Springboks would be treated as a sporting extension of all that is inspiring and the head coach would be an extension of all that was and could be inspiring.

The situation is distasteful.

It is also demeaning to the loyal Springbok supporter who is refused information and access to process and transparency.

Who appoints the Springbok coach?

What is their qualification to make the appointment?

What is the consequence to them getting it wrong and what is the incentive to them getting it right?

What are the Key Performance Indicators?

Coetzee is not the villain here. Those who made the mistake in hiring him are the bad guys. They are also cowards because they hide from scrutiny.

Springbok rugby, because of these men, is in ill health and the irony is that the only one to get the axe is the team doctor. That emphasizes just how sick it all is."

It is indeed time that something is done and the swamp at SARU cleaned out.  I agree with much which is written above.

What is their qualification to make the appointment?

Abrahams openly stated that SARU are not qualified to pick a national coach, they were admin people he said not rugby people. They've now restructured to include a person who understands the game and who'll be responsible for selecting the national coach.

It is clear that SARU want to get rid of Coetzee- but because he is not white, the ANC have stepped in and interfered with the selection.
The sports officials in South Africa probably got the jobs due to inside connections with the ANC, rather than any form of merit.

I expect in 1000 years, it is going to be the same quota crew.

That might not be true and I say might, problem also for SARU is that they would need to not only pay out Coetzee but they would also have to fork out Pounds on 2 years of Rassie's contract. And yes the idea was for Coetzee to run with Transformation but if you look into his team he also did not meet with the quota requirements.
Truth be told SARU just doesn' t have the money.

While it the current quota government is a disaster and travesty, it is true that the current situation is to some degree caused by the past.
If only, the idiots who created and supported Apartheid could switch places with us all. We are all paying for their stupidity and religious brainwashing that enforced Apartheid.

No mate, it's not some degree it's a full 360 degree but that aside, thanks for your honesty, as matter of fact you're only the second white person on any forum to shake off the arrogance and admit that Apartheid was morally wrong and politically untenable.
As a non-white and part of the oppressed we would many a day shake our heads in disbelief at what was being practiced around us while whites went about their daily business enjoying the benefits of the colour of their skin totally indifferent to the horror of what was actually happening.
I'll never forget this quote from a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church..." Blacks mustn't say Our Father because Jesus was a white man"
Needless to say it went down unchallenged in what was almost a totalitarian system of government.

Actually bad as Apartheid was I doubt things would be much different if the government had capitulated earlier. In fact if we simply had one man one vote straight after the war the chances are a one party state would have emerged earlier....that's the lesson of Africa. Almost all the things that are deplorable in the current government........graft, lack of protection from crime, incompetence.....had little to do with Apartheid where buying a little bit of farm land near a new highway was about as bent as things got. ....... Apartheid was an awful chapter.....but it isn't responsible for everything.

Human nature. The same people who recoil at the atrocities of apartheid or fascism would be willing participants if the roles were reversed. We can only hope that more safeguards have been built in, but as we can readily see in Mosul and Aleppo it's a selective hope.

Denny......I was spot on I see.
Also, it is better to have frozen nuts than no nuts at all.
So now u are living off what the white folks in Australia have created for u.
Told u once before we are not responsible for your skin color. But if it troubles u so much stay out of the sun or change the block out u are using.
Not all whites supported Apartheid as u claim and if it bothers u so much go back to SA now that the whites are no longer in power and live back home with your family.
With your ``non-white``status u refer to u should be a shoe in any government position.
So the choice is yours. Stay out of the sun and smear on the block-out or go home and get a job with the ANC comrades.
But be very careful.........maybe just maybe some comrades will judge u as not black enough.
Now stop your ranting about race and chill out with a Fosters.

Well the percentage of those were lower, because the influences on them.....parents, teachers, friends, culture.....were not consistently in favour of Apartheid. Not that that kid was a 'better" person than the kid in Bloem, he was moulded by different forces. .... I don't believe populations are inherently good or bad.....the beetle brow Nazi of Boy's Own magazine....I believe populations are shaped. The Nazis were shaped by the near communist takeover of Germany, the mega inflation and the Versailles treaty. The Afrikaaners were shaped by the Great Trek, malaria, the Boer War and the Concentration Camps....the search for independence. .... That doesn't mean we have to approve of that shape, but it does mean we have to progress beyond thinking they are just bad people. How can the children of those bad Nazis be the nation that is now most accomodating to immigrants if that was true. ..... It's more complicated than that.

So you took your Apartheid wealth with you and became a pleb in frozen Canada. Geez I feel your pain....no boerie, no rugby and no Oom Tas! Hell would be a better option with another 3 months of snow ploughing in waiting....
I left for political reasons.....don't fret, you'll never understand.
But as a footnote, Ozzies accepted me as an equal, the colour of my skin was never a factor in gaining or not gaining a position. And I've done very well for myself...with 3 WC's under my belt, world wide tours and more planned, my house paid plus an investment unit paid, tucked away in beautiful Cape Town......just how do you stack up...Dunce?!

 It's more complicated than that.
There's nothing complicated in understanding that they brainwashed the white population with "Swart Gevaar" and "Rooi Gevaar"...and created privileges based on pigmentation. Cold blooded and deliberate without an inch of empathy. I suppose you're not aware this was happening.
And as an example I don't suppose you know that a non white Radiographer earned half the wage of her white counterpart. I could go on.
And as for but it does mean we have to progress beyond thinking they are just bad people....that's rich coming from someone who's never suffered the indignity of Apartheid.

"In my opinion Apartheid is responsible for everything."
I disagree.
Denny clearly you were affected by apartheid. Obviously it was aweful for non-whites in SA. I'm sorry for that, even though it's not my place to apologise for.
Just don't walk around with a hammer thinking everything is nail bro.
In the absence of necessity there is always an inequality in human relationships. I didn't read that somewhere, it's just what I believe. It's just how it is.
Causation is a funny thing. Here's a case I learned about years ago.
Guy gets shot by robbers and is bedridden. Guy developed septicemia due to not being turned regularly enough in his bed. Guy dies. Are the robbers guilty of murder or manslaughter? No they're not. Though one action lead to a result some time later, the robbers original charge of attempted murder stands. See where I am going with this?
There comes a point where we have to draw a line between the wrongs of apartheid and actions in the present day which are influencing outcomes negatively.
Just my two cents. I dont want to tick you off or belittle any injustices that you or your loved ones faced.

Denny clearly you were affected by apartheid.
You make it sound like it's a personal thing, as matter of fact we were all affected, white, black, green, pink....in every sphere of our lives. We became the products of our environment. If we're going to debate then may I suggest it's very important that you understand this.

I'm afraid I don't.
There comes a point where we have to draw a line between the wrongs of apartheid and actions in the present day which are influencing outcomes negatively.
The present day cannot be debated until we understand and accept the point I tried to make in my first paragraph.
Before I proceed let me give you a window into my own mindset and for this I have to wind back to an example of about 10 years ago while on a visit to Cape Town.
My family, including my now son in law were standing on the pavement at the top of Adderley street waiting the Cape minstrel parade. It just so happened that were between exchange of contracts in selling one of my units and so I had no phone, TV or other forms of communication with the outside world. The Proteas with GS and Herschelle were touring Oz and I dearly wanted to know how they were faring so I asked an Indian gentleman standing in front of me and in the process told him I was on holiday etcHe then wanted to know what the Australian public and media thought of South Africa's racial policies.I gave him an answer then which I would give now when asked the same question.
I said the Ozzies don't care about your racial policies, they care about being entertained by someone with a ball in his hand and by someone else with a bat in his hand. I won't go into the rage the fella went into.
That was my mindset 10 years ago and that's my mindset now and will be forever.
Now to get back to your point about a line in the sand about the wrongs of today.
Well, let me make this as simple as possible.
How would you go about correcting the imbalances that were still in existence post Apartheid?
And let's for a brief moment imagine you as black? And let's just concentrate on sport.
The days of a lily white national side is kaput. You now have equality and freedom.
Go ahead, how would you address the imbalance.

For starters the Jerk Arthur John has been persisting with bringing my family and ethnicity onto the board, each and everytime he addresses me. I have always just responded in kind, never once mentioning his family or ethnicity, only in response. Seeing you have nothing better to do than selecting my posts why don't you go to his original thread and see for yourself.
In response to Plum's post I've created a very factual scenario for him to provide a solution or a better solution to what's actually happened at the dawn of readmission.
Clearly the point made has flown straight over your head.
You make it sound like it's a personal thing - and he does hence the reason I've pointed out that I'm not the only one who was affected by Apartheid. So tell me, you were not affected by Apartheid?

I find it awfully strange and uncharacteristic of you to fixate on my postings and completely ignoring Arthur Johns racist posts with my ethnic background as his main focus.

Some problems in South Africa, are inherently African wide problems. Overpopulation, a high percentage or orphans etc, etc.
What should have happened, is hopefully what will happen in the future- isSouth African develops a strong middle-class majority made up of all races.
This would unite a strong majority middle class against the "radical" bottom feeders, as well as the "rich" who have no morals or scruples such as the Zupta's.

By pure co-incidence it's exactly what I said to a SAFFA holidaying over here at the moment. I've always felt that South Africa's democracy has never been tested and I believe it will be tested if hopefully the DA wins power.
But either way it goes a strong middle clas s will provide a much needed buffer against the radicals.

now that I'm led to believe I hate white people.

Denny

You are not led to believe anything, but you certainly do lead others like me to believe certain things about you, with what you post and how you post it.

The days of a lily white national side is kaput.

This comment above...

How can this be directed to just Arthur John or Plum, when every white person at that time in this country, supported this "Lily White" team as you call it, and that is including me and possibly most SA posters on here as well.

Maybe it's not hate, as that is a very strong term, but you certainly do have a hell of a lot of anger in you, that you predominantly direct towards white people.
