The Welsh scrum looked pretty impotent against Oz...but then again, so did the Bok scrum against Oz, when Malherbe came on, and the Aussie loosehead folded him like a pocket handkerchief.
What will happen on Saturday remains anybody's guess.

Hell you don't even have to go to test rugby. In one of the S15 encounters against the Lions he was slaughteredby the Lions loosehead. Malherbe is a powerful chap, and when the scrum achieves forward movement, supplied by Kitshoff for the Stormers, he can clean up the tighthead side.
But with his stretched out scrumming position he has a hard time adjusting to sideways or backward movements and tends to plough face first into the deck, pulling the opposing loosehead with him. Against Aussie though he was shunted inwards and popped...a somewhat novel development.
14 Oct 2015, 15:44#6
Moz, I agree with you regarding Kitshoff! He and Kriel should have made into the WC squad, both very unlucky.

Wrong your interpretation of Malherbe's scrumming is wrong and I have pointed that out on numerous occasions.......much like the case with Marcel v/d Merwe

Mozart
You are a liar and dare to repeat the lies you spun before. Here is the stats for that test you are referring to for the two props concerned:-
Jenkins0/000/2/6200015/10/021/0
Malherbe0/000/0/2100009/30/010/0
So what happened in the test itself. After the scrumming initially was a mess and could not be settled properly - Jenkins was twice penalised for taking the scrum down - he was the one that went down - not Malherbe. After that penalty the scrumming problem persisted. When the scrum broke down again the referee said over his microphone (it could be heard on TV) he was going to penalize Malherbe since the problem was not solved.
Before the enxt scrum could be formed he warned both Jenkins and Malherbe that if the next sw\\reum foes down he was going to yellow card both. malherbe was replaced by Coenie and the scrumn went down again - both were yellow-carded.
So here is the issue. Jenkins went down when scrumming and was penalized twice for the said purpose. When Coenie came on the scrum went down again. If Malherbe was the cause - why did the problems continue after Malherbe was replaced? The problem all along was Jenkins - not Malherbe. But you obviously refused to accept that and start the lying spin about what actually happened during that match.

Nonsense Jenkins is not a great scrummager, but falling down isn't his issue...it's MAlherbe's issue. As for the penalties you have no clue if Jenkins was penalized in general play or in scrumming....just another BS statement.
In any case I'm not making the statement, the Guardian is....and their view is proven in match after match. Even in the Eagles match Malherbe had his knees on the deck.
None of Malherbe, Coenie or Marcel can scrum for toffee.

Like Mike said the scrumming in general in that match was atrocious, and to solely blame Malherbe is very harsh.

Can't say I payed much attention to Jenkins in the game last week but I do know that Malherbe hasn't given a scrum penalty away so far this WC, and looked solid in all aspects so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
He's a more destructive scrummager than Jannie so it could be great for us, and if things go wrong like you suspect we have the Jannie on the bench who's a more solid scrummager.

He hasn't...yet. I was more talking about potential based on what we've seen at Super Rugby level. In terms of style Malherbe is more destructive in the scrum when he's on song but I think Jannie is more of a solid scrummager (If that makes any sense, which reading back it doesnt?)

Mozart is as per normal talking his prejudiced tripe. Take for instance the Stormers scrum in Suoer 15 this year. It was accepted that the scrumming was the storng point in the team and the result was very evident - they made mince meat of every other team in Super 15 0 inclusive of the Sharks - where Jannie and Beast were the props.
The Stormers props for the mjor part of the tournament was Kitshof and Malherbe.
His statement that Maherbe cannot scrum is absolute BS - in fact an outright lie.

What has Mal done away from the Stormers? Super rugby is not a benchmark for scrumming prowess anyway. He struggled most recently against Scotland, so that is the last opponent that mattered.

I did not lie in thi s case - your description of what happened was so warped that it was totally unbelievable. Why was Jenkins penalized twice before Malherbe was penalized and then the remark made by Roillard as referee clearly heard on TV and why was the scrum also went down when Coenie took over - if the whole fiasco was due to Malherbe?
What you said happened is nowhere near the truth - FACT.

Well Jannie hasn't actually dominated either. Solid at best and his xp helps when our scrum is under pressure, but his discipline is dodgy at times. IMO Malherbe and Koch are the only other alternatives at 3 and Koch has still some serious questions to answer at test level.

My standard of Fat is clear and Malherbe is anything but FAT - he is a strongly built prop.
However, Jannie is not the ideal prop forward either. Let me explain one thing too. In all his Super 15 games (144 of them) Jannie never scored a single try. In 54 appearances for the Stormers Malherbe scored two tries, That typifies the difference between the two outside of scrumming - Malherbe 8 out of 10 - Jannie 2 out of 10. In scrumming their rating is about the same as Draad pointed out.
In essence Jannie is in his declining years as a prop. You shout and scream about Malherbe in his first start as a prop for the Springboks against Wales - he was only 22 years old then. Unlike other positions it rarely happens that a prop reach optimum performance standards when they are younger than 25 years old, So Malherbe is getting there he is 24 years old now. It showed this year i Super 15 and it will show from now onwards.

The reason why I posted those pics, Bluebok, is that in the same way - using selective pictures - some of our friends claimed that Gurthro Steenkamp was fat. Hell, even when the RWC squad was announced, ou Tokkie claimed to have seen pictures/footage where FDP was fat.

I could I be so stupid - I should by now know that you rate players by their age, not by performance. During the game in 2013 - Jenkins was 33 years old and Malherbe 22 years old - so the false yarn was spun that Jenkins was good - Malherbe not so.
Th coming Saturday it is even more in Jenkins favour - he is 35 years of age and Malherbe 24 - according to Mozart , the older the better,

We will see on Saturday what is happening insofar as Jenkins is concerned. I suppose if he is pushed back in the scrum - Mozart and DF will claim Malherbe flopped in the scrumming - and was going backwards. If Jenkins get penalized - they would claim the fault was Malherbe's. That is normal with those two self-proclaimed experts.

I don't often side with anybody here but who cares... this build does not challenge even ageing Jannie and is pap even to Georgian and Argentinian front rowers... what an iinsult to great Bok front rowers like Os
