At this point I would prefer PSDT on the bench.
I was concerned today with Lood. He did not seem to be looking where he is going and destroyed arguably the best 2 attacking moves. He could consider a haircut as well as his mops seems to block his vision.

He did but the first thing Stephanie did was miss a tackle... and then he was totally confused. The whole Lomp myth pretty much died out there. He tried hard, but was completely unable to make yards...and the ball died with him every time.

The Springboks best attacking platform is the rolling maul drives when in the opposition quarter.  With Matfield calling the lineouts it will give us a better platform to attack

Lood butchered two excellent opportunities while making the same basic error on both occasions. He ran with the ball in one hand and with his arms waving like the arms of a windmill. At no stage did he think about protecting the ball. And then there was the one time where he literally chucked the ball down to nobody in a line-out, making a balls-up of that as well.

I think the team should be retained unchanged    If we had Matfield in the team today - a game of extreme physicality - we would have lost the game totally.  End of story.
The only means of taking on the AB's is to force their forwards to play a much tighter and more physical game - and with Matfield in the lock position we are stuffed.   We will lose whatever chance we have to be competitive is to contain the B forwards - not to be standing around in the backline or attacking purposes and Matfield will join them and not force them to play a tighter game.  .

Rubbish Matfield would have made some clever passes instead of taking the tackle and losing the ball. This is Lomp 14 wasted runs...10 metres...3 turnovers...2 penalties.  Etzebeth wasn't much better.
Lde Jager0/000/2/141001037/07/120/0

Two locks both trying to do the same job. Give the job to the more powerful man...Etzebeth. Get Victor to start, structure the maul and provide some kick off skill. Lomp completely froze on one kickoff. And get a replacement for the kid, who looked confused and scared out there. Victor to start...Lomp on the bench.

Victor is just a better all-round lock, plain and simple. And I should add Flip would have been better as well.

Victor started and played through his last two tests at 5 and guess what the results were?
Wales - beat SA 12 - 6 Japan  - beat SA 34-32
You made one mistake in your stating sentence above  Yopu sadi Matfield "IS" instead of Matfield "WAS".
The last two tests against the AB's - Matfield buggered up badly in line-outs towards the end of each test.  The first bugger-up was in the away test, where eh spilled a ball meant to start a driving maul that could have lert to a Springbok win.  The second one was when the AB's stole a line out when Matfield called the ball to come to him.   The second bugger-up let to a try being scored by the AB's - they would have won the test, but for a miracle penalty conversion by Lambie later on.
It would be madness to change the team that has won the last 4 tests in a row in the WC and bring in players part of losing test teams.

Yes, the Welsh outplayed our pathetic halfback duo who were hopelessly outplayed all year. Laughable how they totally suffocated the Bok backs. So your point is not a point, but a blunt, and I recommend you stay off the stuff!
Against Japan? Victor was one of two productive forwards that day. Can't blame him for that loss, but no doubt you will because of your bias. Bias which will be intensified after Lood gets embarrassed!

I predict if Matfield is fit he will play & maybe even start. As I and many others said early Lood is young & inexperienced . It showed in that game. Not his fault, he was not developed properly and will be a very good player in the medium term.

So it seems that both Lead Head and Matfield are injury doubts. Matfield has had a hamstring issue for sometime. Hopeful both are ready to play. I dont think Leadhead has the temperament to start in this big game.

This is absurd a man was the best lock in all the tests and made what I believe is one mistake in the last game - so now suddenly he gets attacked,   Fact is - what you are is one-incident junkies - the worst possible way to assess player performances.

Three mistakes not counting the kickoff he bottled out of taking. But actually it's not the mistakes it's the confusion that told the story. Easy to look like a hero against the Eagles. But against Wales he looked distinctly fallible. In a semi against a really motivated AB team, I think things won't go so well.

This is typical of the one-incident madness.  In the Japanese test Matfield took three kick-ins and completely botched the fourth one.  So De Jager gets blamed for "bottling" out of a kick-in take and dead silence is maintained about the Matfield fumble.
That is why one-incident junkies are fools of the first order,   They pick on one incident and then preach about it as if the match outcome depended on that incident and what happened in that incident is career defining.

But you did exactly that Pervert. You commented ad nauseum about Matfield botching that kickoff....but not a peep about Lomp standing there while the ball bounced dangerously in front of him.

You really are an old hypocrite and an old fruit.

This is hilarious.   because I mentioned it - I did not use it as a means to derail the overall performance if the player - he was poor in other facets of play as well.  Fact is De Jager was comprehensively better than Matfield was in all tests played this year - yet that one incident is used by our local sage to promote the inclusion of Matfield in the team for Saturday.

Anyway, Lood was not vastly superior to Victor at all. He could carry strongly against weaker opposition, but as we saw against Wales, he gets driven back by aggressive physicality, I think in part because he is slow off the mark. Whilst I do believe he will be much more dominant against New Zealand , Victor has the complete game to negate the All Blacks. Look at what they did to France at restarts in particular, they are no joke . A repeat of what Lood did will spell trouble. We also need Victor's mobility and defence. His leadership and experience will be crucial.

I love this, fans want the Boks to play like NZ and get away from what they perceive as "dinosaur rugby"  but demand a slow lock with clumsy hands!
Lood would never meet the requirements for an All Black lock. They base their game on  forwards with good hands, endurance, strength and decision making. Lood does only one those things.

"This is typical of the one-incident madness."

Yup...

Lood's stats in terms of the HUGE amount of metres he makes at the world cup. Against such powerful nations, such as USA, Samoa, Japan and Scotland!!!!

47 runs for a total of 105m = 2.2m run

Take away the one incident madness... 33m for the try against the immense Japanese force...

46 runs for 72m = 1.5m per run...

If I use the fact that he probably carries the ball at a height of approximately 1.5m, it then means he fell over 46 times?!?!?!?!

 The Trooth Fairy
Why don't stats on your useless hero Matfield?    What you write here is absolute crap.  Lets take the case of Japan:-
*   Matfield - carried balls 8 times making 17 meters - average carry 2.1 meters.  Making one line break  beating no defenders.
*   De Jager - carried the ball 12 times making 47 meters - average carry 3,9 meters.Making 1 line break beating 4 defenders.
You cannot take away one incident in a game to fit your retarded argument.  Matfield played in the Japan game and did squat.  So where does that argument leave you?  Nowhere logical.
If you even want to tell me that Matfield is a stronger ball carrier in traffic than De Jager is - you need to have your eyes tested and consult a shrink. Matfield is easily brought down by the first defender and he goes down straight in tackles  -often enough being the cause of turnovers (ball possession losses and penalties).  De Jager is rarely tackled by one player - more than one is the norm - and he foes forward int tackles - minimizing the risk of ball possession losses through turnovers.

What rubbish - Matfield is a serious deficiency in Tight 5 play where his contribution is near to zero.  The only way we even have a remote chance of beating the AB's on Saturday is if he is as far away from the field as possible.  The point difference is 15 points - because we would lose competitiveness in the Tight 5 if Matfield plays.
