Real nut cases around here. I think Super 15 is terrible,  super 12 was a better way to go. To be honest I don't care one way or the other. SA teams struggle when they travel as all the rest who travel to South Africa basically most oz or NZ teams just write the SA games off,   they never really reflect how the team is going its just a game that has to be performed and hope to collect a few points. Teams like the Sharks don't travel much anyway. They should reduce the number of teams that will reduce the number of ga mes to create a higher quality contest. forever-AZ angry MOFO aren't you.

It would be hugely benefical for SA to join the NH. However rugby can't be played here in summer so how does one get around that?Obvioulsy if somehow we could play in the NH we would drastically reduce the player drain crippling our rugby. We would also get a fairer deal ref wise.
The consequences for nz and OZ would be disasterous. OZ rugby could well collaspse and there would be no chance at all of growing the game as the money would evaporate and players would switch to league. The collapse of OZ rugby would leave nz isolated playing Japan and the Islanders. BwahhahahahahahahahaMeanwhile the NH competitionwould be the most glamourous and strongest in the world with huge money available. As suggested above kiwi players would leave nz and ditto the Islanders. Nz would becoem a third rate rugby power.
If we could find a workable NH format we should then go back to OZ and NZ and lay down the law. Firstly the get the jarpie business must end. If SA is disatisfied with a bent down under ref  he must be fired is the evidence warrants it. Next oz and nz must play 4 consequetive matches in SA.
All nz/oz fans must sign an acknowledgement that they have been crooking sa sides unmercifully, as Beeno has been saying, and have fully repented. For one year saffa fans will addressed as Sir by said fans ( A title somewhat demeaned by sir john and sir graham who were throuroughly schooled by Master jake and others)
I feel confiedent that given the above the oz/kiw fans (who love and admire the real mens rugby played by the SA sides) will sue for peace.
The outcome of course will be most pleasing. SA sides winning the Super 15 each year and the Boks ruling the roost as in the past. Kwi and OZ posters here will be able to continue being schooled in the game etc etc. A win, win situation.

lmfao, this Arizona guy and his hilarious angry posts...what did you guys do to him to make him so angry?

Anyway, IMO there is more merit to this idea than most people give Merts credit for. The ultimate question is: Will NZ support a 'ballsy' move to grow the international game while sacrificing their dominance in world rugby? I doubt it.

NZ are in a unique position where they might be able to a) help promote Aus rugby so that it is a lot more competitive than Aussie-rules and League; and b) elevate Japan from a T3 to T2 rugby nation by playing them regularly and having more talent involved in their infrastructure.

The problem is that as most have pointed out already, NZ lose the competitive edge by not playing top-notch opposition regularly, and maybe initially won't have the $$$ to support retaining world class talent.

The benefits are obvious, long-term sustainability with more money coming in from Aus and Japan market, greater international credibility for the game, and more competition across the rugby world.

The reality is that NZ won't risk losing its spot on the rankings for a 'chance' to grow the game internationally. Its a little sad to be honest, but realistic. NZ would definitely be less competitive, and the benefits not guaranteed.

If we dropped SA from the S15 the biggest losers would be SA.

Who would they play? The Europeans obviously don't want them in their comp otherwise they'd have made a play for them long ago. The Northerners wouldn't want to play in the middle of summer in SA and it would also mean SA having to change their season entirely 'cos you can be damn sure the Europeans wouldn't entertain changing their's!

Sounds like doom and gloom for SA. 60/40 representation or else a withdrawal of govt funds and the right to represent the country!

Instead of abusing NZ and it's supporters for suggesting the idea, you guys should be down on your knees praying it doesn't happen!

How does a Tri-Series with Namibia and Zimbabwe sound boys? Attractive??

Moooooo la your bouvine bleatings are becoming hysterical. Please oak man up!
There is zero chance of nz or oz wanting SA out. It would be like putting a gun to ones own head.
Where we have gone wrong is to not call the shots and tell these nobodys what the story is. Neutral refs and 4 consequtive matches in SA. We needed a Louis Luyt to negotiate not a Hoskins wimp.
No the strategy must be to see if is possible to join the NH. If something can be worked out turn up the heat on oz and nz. Bring the oaks to heel so they know who the boss is. If they have any delusions of grandeur fire them and join the NH.
Personally I prefer the SH comp but only on level playing fields. Being crooked out every Saturday must stop. Its all so predictable and boring and most annoying as well.
I am sure if Justin Marshall were participating in this debate he would shout out - well said Sir Beeno you guys have been disgracefully treated by the get the Jarpie brigade for too long -it must stop. Its a great stain on our wee nation!!
I do hope ou saSUE is taking note of all this - he keeps quoting fictitious figures re nz 's rugby record which is a complete fabricated myth .
Cloudy my deep psycoanalysis has revealed your weak spots but being a gentleman I would never think of exploiting them.

Stop ranting and admit it Hasbeeno; without the S15, SA rugby is stuffed! We don't need you as much as you need us. We have  neighbours  to play against whilst lil 'ol SA has virtually no-one!So get back in line and thank your lucky stars you have any opposition at all. God knows the ABs have had little enough opposition from the Boks since 1981!

Neighbours to play against moooooooooooo la la la la. Bwahahahaha oz rugby would be finaqcially bankrupt with in a year and league would take over completely.
Tha would leave nz versus Japan and the Islanders. The Islanders if not looted of the players by nz would put up a good show but nz would buy them out. Hence they would be poor opposition. That leaves Japan which is hardly much to talk about moooooooo la la la
You getting the picture.
No nz oaks should be on their knees entreating South Africa to stay. We on the other hand need to insist on reformed refs and a 4 match visit to sa.
What state would the kiwi and oz sides be in after playing 4 SA sides in a row!!! What would the scorelines be like under neutral refs!!!!
A season or two of this pounding and they would be knocking hard at Japans door. Bwahahahahahhahahahahaha

"SA is stuffed without S15", he says. Interesting to note that the first time SA took part in Super Rugby in 1993, Transvaal won the competition. That was in the days when  the CC was the toughest domestic competition in world rugby and before it was stuffed up by Super  Rugby.  The next two years, the competition was won by Australian teams. In 1995 SA beat NZ in the RWC final, on  the back of only three seasons "experience" of Super Rugby. It was only after that, in the S12 that NZ teams really dominated. Was that due to the fact that they were regularly faced by competition from  SA teams?

It is also interesting that only the S12 was dominated by NZ teams. The S14 was not dominated by them at all. The S14 was actually in favour of SA with the Bulls winning three titles and the Crusaders winning two. The S15 count at this stage is only 2/3 to NZ. That can hardly be called dominating now, can it?

This is not impossible but with far more devastating results, not merely an opinion by rugby opinionates like Mehrtens for mere business and rugby reasons.

There's irony in this statement...because racialism has turned it's ugly head...this time a far worse one...that not only discriminates (and has a slow progressing creep to ultimately completely overtake). One must remember that two wrongs NEVER MAKE A RIGHT. You do not fight evil with evil.

In my youth, I stood against this evil but what we have now is very far worse and the ignoramuses of the world imposed boycotts against us only to invent the reverse. Crumbs are they stark staring brain dead blind. Universal politics is so hypocritical it stinks...run by greedy manipulators using illiterate and depthless people to get a cross on the ballot. One day the world will be raptured by God's son and eventually lead to totally apocalypse of the world...a truth that will be fulfilled...not limited to man's vastly inferior intellect but only understood by those that give faith and trust to superior being and intellect the Creator of the universe.

Arizona...please refrain from your dirt, filth and unmanly behaviour. You mentioned that you went to MC in PM Burg.

I do not know if this is true...but you are a an insult to a school that produced the likes of Alan Paton and sportsmen like Phillip Nel, Keith Oxlee,Jackie Mc Glew, Andy Van Der Watt,Joel Stransky, Jeremy Thomson,Butch James and Peter Grant and many other sportsmen and people of integrity and fame and was tutored by men like Skonk Nicholson and Craig Joubert.

I hope not...because you are a shame to us and we disown you...maybe the old school means nothing to you but keep this mention out of it and rather stay in Arizona with the Bush' s and coyotes.

Apologise to Cloudy as a start...you don't talk to ladies like this...man up.

I hope you can and apologise.

Ceradyne, you can twist the stats around to try and make the SA position look better but the fact remains of the 18 Super Rugby competitions to date since the advent of professional rugby, SA have only won 3 and that was in one period of 3 years! So for the other 15 years your rugby has been mediocre to crap! That's what I call domination and don't even start on about the Boks capitulation to the ABs since 1992! Anyway my point to Hasbeeno was that who have you got to play without us and Oz?Virtually no-one, so start praying that Mehrts' suggestion doesn't come to fruition!SA may become a rugby backwater and that would be a shame indeed.....

Funny the SA sentiment on here given the number of times SA rugby has threatened to slam the door on its SANZAR partners, the fact is the only thing you have in common with the NH is the time zone, not the seasons, certainly not the geography.  There's a serious overvaluation of SA rugby if Bok fans think the NH clubs will welcome you in with open arms, the international window would be shot to shit what the all the shuffling of fixtures due to the different seasons for starters.  If the SANZAR relationship went tits up, and I hope it doesn't, Oz and Nz have a viable option to build a pretty decent product together, plus we also have significant Asian television market to tap into outside of the traditional rugby strongholds.  SA don't have a massive amount of options outside of forming another expanded super competition with the Mozambique Marlins, Dakar Dynamite and Harare Heat.

Eveery effort should be made to explore the NH option. If it si an option lay down the law to OZ and Nz.
Without Sa particpation Oz rugby would collpase. They could not hope to compete with league.NZ would then be isolated
End of story.

POOOOOOOOIE the NH are as desaparte for us to join as nz and Oz are to keep us. We are the pot of gold. However it has occurred to me the cessation of Saffa players to the NH would cause their collapse as well so this does get complicated!
Japenese rugby would also collapse and oz would be hit as well.
No in reality its all about money and we are a huge attraction. The big practical problem is seasons. Can that be solved. Build some closed in rugby staduims in SA with air conditioning?
