There was only today an article where Meyer stated he doers not select players on reputation and they must perform if they want to be considered.

"Springbok management was reluctant to reveal how talks went between coach Heyneke Meyer and Andries Bekker about a possible return to the international fold for the lock. Meyer on Monday indicated that he was interested in the Test comeback claim of the Japan-based Bekker.
The 31-year-old Bekker, currently on the books of the Kobelco Steelers, is in Cape Town at present and the coach said he would be having a one-on-one with him on Tuesday to gauge his interest in and suitability to returning to green-and-gold duty this year.
Bekker had made himself unavailable for Springbok selection when he moved to Japan in 2013.
When contacted by Netwerk24 about how the meeting between Meyer and Bekker went, Springbok management was reluctant to reveal what transpired. The chat was described as "private and confidential".
Bekker recently indicated that he would like to represent the Boks again. Whether his contract at the Steelers would allow it, remains an open question."
The first question is what does Meyer know about the performance of Bekker for his Japanese Club and even if it was good - what would his impact have been in the much tougher player requirements in the much stronger SH rugby environment?
Bekker is in the same boat as other Japanese Club players is. All suffer from lack of match-fitness and have been the subject of player injuries as a result. He has played no rugby since March 2015 - so where to now? I liked the guy when he played - at least he was a lock and not a backline moonlighter like Matfield - but he is well on his way to 32 years of age and at a stage of his career where he should not be selected for the first time since 2012.
