Looking at the De Villiers - De Jongh center combination in Super 15 in 2012 - you have found the best description imaginable - it was like watching paint dry.   That could not be said of the Scottish and English tests  though.   In those two tests De Jongh went AWOL and I had to study minute after minute where he was on the field of play - he definitely was never where he was supposed tto be..

De Jongh as a small player - has one real deficiency - he does not have the skill set that would off-set his small physique.   He should never have been a Springbok - just not good enough for the job.   His real abilities are clearly illustrated by his stats and the fact that he is totally ineffective in attacking play.

@Clevermike, I see that you agreed on the "watching paint dry" center combination metaphor.

I don't know what happened on the computer when I posted that comment on your contribution   .It just keep duplicating the message.

What do you think about my comments to Saffx about his suggested centers.   I remain worried about Francois Steyn and am serious when I said he showed some deficienies in performance in the tests and his real contribution was in fact to crashball in the hope that we reccover the ball for Morne to kick away.   From an attacking backline point of view his contribution was near to zero.

It really bothers me and I think that we will be forced to look elsewhere if he showed similar tendencies as he did in Super 15 this year.    Hope he does not - but that remains to be seen. .

Ditto rooinek!

Mike I think there is reason to be hopeful re Frans.  I feel pretty sure he will be fitter this year and he will be playing in a functional backline. If Frans can create some space for gasman Jordaan the sharks will thrive.

One also forgets those massive long distance kicks.  Free State sure lost a great rugby player to the guppies - one of many of course.

Sorry - but I pressed the submit button once.  and then waited for a very long time for th message to be posted.   What came up was ten times the problem jauzy had yesterday as well.   I asked the editor to remove the repetitions though.

Beeno

Hope Steyn does get better than he was in 2012.   My problem with the long distance kicks is that it works at a succeess rate of not more than 20%  of the time.   Maybe we can do better by kicking for the corner than by trying to get a long distance penalty slotted with such a low success rate.

Be it as it may - if Steyn proves to be ineffective as an attacking center - and he has plenty of oportunities to show otherwise - Meyer can always pick Serfornetin or De Allende at 12 and forget about him.
