Kriel is not better than Coetzee. We had similar things said with Minnie that were later regretted.

I published some info on Kriel's performances this year compared to those of Coetzee in another thread on this issue.   He was in fact better than Coetzee.  I see Kriel as a better loosie since he is much better as a  ball carrier than Coetzee.  I must mention that Kriel has the ability to carry the ball in open play as well and link up with the backline in attacking moves, while Coetzee is more limited in his ball carry abilities.
Make no mistake - I rate Coetzee highly - a hard  player that would not let any team down, but in practice I think Kriel is a better opensider than Coetzee.  Kriel is not for nothing the highest rated loosie in Super 15.
He was good in 2014 - star quality  in 2015.
Don't get upset with what Letsal says about players - he is clueless about player evaluation.    He would have a crazy fit if anybody mention De Allende in any message on this site.          

jacko kreil is an openside flanker.

unless somethings changed in the last year, number 6 in south africa is openside flanker. i heard the same thing about france, but not sure if thats true.

but jacko has been an impressive bolt of lightning this year, its just unfortunate for him that the Boks depth in the looseforward department is deep and world class.

i wouldnt necessarily bump marcel coetzee for kriel though, IMO coetzee is world class, but ive always thought coetzees game is better suited for a blindside, so a simple positional change for coetzee in the no7 to accommodate for kreil gets the uzumaki clans nod of approval.

but i wouldnt forget about nizam carr too who IMO has one weapon which is impossible to find amongst south african loosies, even amongst their best players. carr is a natural link man, a loosie who has the skills to link up with the backline and even be creative with ball in hand.
saffa loosies traditionally use physicality to help create anyway forward, but nizam carr is more like a kiwi loose forward, has the physicality to compete, but has the ball skills to add another bow to the teams attacking options.

 Sasuke, have you mixed up Coetzee with Carr? I like your thinking but surely the smart thing would be to have Carr on the bench so he can cover all three positions?

 Marcel Coetzee versus Jaco Kriel is a healthy aspect of rugby...both excellent and that is what you need...knocking one against the other does sweet fanny adams, both we are proud of....the fact that there is challenge is healthy for our rugby...the same applies to all positions that are challenged....the peanut gallery choice has no effect....lets hope there is still enough spirit of adventure or more importantly insight or intuition seen by our selector... berating one and praising is a voice in the wilderness.

I'm happy with either one.
