in our current game pattern schalk burger is receiving more quick first phase ball than pollard....in the crazy meyer game pattern this is the norm....
its like watching a rerun of the 1987 rwc for the boks.....utter utter rubbish style of play......

Yes too true. Schalk should not be the 2nd receiver so often.
Shalk is not very strong in contact- especially now days
. When we carry up with the loosies- we need to use Vermeulen at 2nd receiver more often to get over the advantage line. Schalk is a better linking loose forward than ball carrier in contact- so we need him at 3rd receiver to take uploads from the 2nd receiver.
We do also need to get Pollard more involved who can pass back the forwards as option- or out to Delande

The status quo is to have your forwards ahead of the backs. Watch the French test. Spread pods with backs playing off them. Not punch runners off 10. I don't see how that could work.
This "Schalk at 10" nonsense is just a fad saying South Africans use because they don't understand the shape or pattern of modern rugby. Schalk has been very effective in his role, and Pollard has had enough ball.
The forwards are organised into PODs, they form a pattern of interlinking parts across the field. These PODs have a decision maker with good hands and they work with the backs. The backs will sit underneath, well, the key decision makers at least. For us that's 9, 10 and 15. We use Willie alot as a playmaker directing play. The forwards carry until the backs feel they have achieved their aim and then its either recycled and given to the backs or passed out the back by a forward to the backs. PODs can work in tandem with the backs, like the box formations I covered in the analysis of Damian's test against Australia. A shape which the Stormers have been using extensively. Meyer mixes the backs and the forwards and this is where our game is actually quite sophisticated. New Zealand do the very same thing. So too Australia and everyone else. It's the way modern rugby is played. The way South African pseudo fans see it is antiquated and out of date. The fans what a game made up of elements which are outdated or don't exist anywhere on earth (Eddie Jones said it must be played on the moon).

df your ignorant post once again shows your lack of rugby iq but if you coached the game you would know that the pattern's that is more attack based you will never see a forward take a quick ball on attack on channel 1.....the forward option is there is make a slow ball a quick ball. that is the main reason the bok attack is limp as a 80 year old in a brothel. if you actually watch the games you will see there is not backs aligned behind schalk 80% of the times. so there is no option b on attack. rugby 101 so your comment contradicts the point your trying to make....but let me not spoil your fantasy with facts.
basic rugby is quick ball goes to the backline and slow ball is there for the forwards to make quick ball. making a forward run off a quick ball in a strong defence (if you knew anything about rugby you will see the defence is the most organised around channel 1/the ruck) destroys the momentum of the speed of the ball. that also wastes space that could have been exploited out wide....seeing that you love this meyer drivel then let me save you the money you wanted to put down for a bok win next week.

great point sharkbok.....the thing is its this backwords pattern of playing a blindside flanker as first receiver is killing our attacking space and only slows the speed we can generate on attack....once again we seem to think we can create space with slow ball. its like the world is upside down. the quick ball goes to the forwards and we think we can score tries of slow ball against a well organised defence.
on international level you cannot disrupt a defence structure and create space with slow ball....there is any ways to create that space but the general rule is that your first receiver is your flyhalf and he can dictate the play with either a forward or giving it to the backline....
meyer shows me that he has zero confidence in his backline and its stunting pollard's confidence. pollard is a confidence player and needs that exposure and he can do amazing things but needs that rubber stamp to go out there and make the calls.
expect the meyer game pattern to go ultra conservative and expect the all blacks to destroy us. you cannot win a rwc on defence and kicking alone

What is concerning is that we won the Wales game by not following a planned move.
Habana was standing out of position away from the blindside wing position- but Vermeulen took the correct option by running blindside from the wheeling scrum.- with only FDP as support.

I suppose you cant plan a wheeling scrum, and that the players took the correct option by not following the game plan. If we had lost it would have been another case of not following the Meyer game plan.

yeah we got lucky with a error in judgement on defence from the welsh winger. if the welsh had there normal first team to pick from i doubt a guy like halfpenny would have made such a massive error in judgement.
great point sharkbok on the game plan. it shows we have such a collective rugby iq that its a crime against a humanity that we dont use the skillsets we have to break teams down. vermeulen is the world best 8th man but even the best wont go anywhere in this style of play

Nobody in the whole wide rugby world is playing such a totally predictable game.
I was very disappointed in the way the Boks played.
I am hoping against hope Meyer has something up his sleeve. Against the wee abs in Sa we saw what the side was capable of. It was something to build on. One really wonders what an unshackled Bok side with a balanced loose trio could achieve.

I often though Wales were intentionally lying in the way to provent FDP getting quick ball.

beeno to beat the all blacks we need to be on our top form and challenge them on there defence......one off runners with slow static ball is not going to upset the no 1 team in the world
best ploy is to still attack them as they are not quite the same team if you put them under pressure. there defence is wonderfull but there is cracks if you have the right pattern.

HM has an issue regarding selection of the team for this week-ends game with the ALL Blacks.
He is struggling to come to terms with his selection for the # 10 position due to the fact that he has so many "class" fly-halves at his disposal.
Namely:
PollardLambie SteynGreybeardBurger
I am sure that the All Black coach must envy HM's options.

Spot on carpet....just shows how out of his depth Meyer and Dumb Fox are.
Meyer can be thankful he has some bloody good players on board to carry his ignorance....that won't work against the Kiwi's

Have a look at a thread  dealing  with the issue of how rugby should be played,   It seems like the losses by NH countries in the World Cup has opened up a whole now debate on rugby development in those countries and specifically about what went wrong in NH rugby.and the need to develop their rugby on the same lines as is happening in New Zealand, Australia and Argentina.
Unfortunately South Africa is still set on playing of rugby according to what NH teams have been using thus far.  and the eyes of our coach has not opened up to that reality as well.   He is strongly supported by some members of this site showing their chronic ignorance  on issues relating to rugby.
Instead of reading up on the issue - Mozart is trying to study what individual players he dislikes  did on Saturday and is starting threads based on absolute BS to discredit those players.   He is making a complete moron of himself.

we must move beyond this fixation on players....players dont dictate the pattern of play they are merely a part of that pattern....
the pattern dictates everything and you can have the best players on the planet if you play with a pattern that wont expose your opposing teams weaknesses whilst playing towards your strong suits you are doomed to be nothing more than mid table team.
our pattern in sa rugby since 1996 has been fundamentally flawed and over the years 1998, 2004 2007 we managed to move away from this rubbish pattern of play and be successfull at it.... but it seems when things get tough the local coaches dont know another way to play the game so they always try to go back in the past as some form of inspiration to try and find something that does not exist anymore. instead of sticking to the process of change and build on it we always throw the knee jerk reaction and revert back to the kick and chase forwards smash it up style of play.
the results are there for everyone to see....the boks have not lost as much matches against the all blacks in our 100 odd year history more than the last 20 years.....so what changed ???? nothing thats the problem. where nz and the other teams have taken there strong suites and builded on them we have just gone nowhere.
instead of us taking our strong suits like our forwards and defence and adding a attacking element to it we have litterally gone forwards with having eddie on board in 2007 to back to this crud we see today.
the likes of meyer and co are pissing our talented youngsters talent away with this style of play and on any given day we can outrun any all black team by playing into space as we see fit but narrow mindedness and just blantant ignorance to what or how the game is evolving is killing us slowing. mixed with saru's rubbish policy of picking overseas based players we are slowly killing the golden goose that is sa rugby.
