The following article from News24:
"Cape Town - Outgoing Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has given the franchise advice on where they can look to strengthen their squad for next season.
The 52-year-old is set to leave for Japan as he embarks on a new phase in his coaching career with Japanese club, Kobe Kobelco Steelers.
The Stormers won this year’s South African conference in Super Rugby, but were knocked out in the qualifiers against the Brumbies at Newlands.
Coetzee said they need add a few new recruits in order to be successful in 2016.
“Steven Kitshoff was superb as loosehead prop, but he’s leaving us (Bordeaux, France). Next year, the Stormers can’t call on a younger player’s services in his absence. We need a senior loosehead,” Coetzee told Netwerk24
.
“Manuel Carizza is leaving Western Province, which means there is a void at No 5 lock. Ruan Botha is the only one remaining.”
Coetzee added that the departures of Duane Vermeulen (Toulon, France) and Michael Rhodes (Saracens, England) create the need to sign a new loose forward.
“Preferably, it should be someone that plays to the ball, like Heinrich Brussow or Marcell Coetzee.”
Coetzee said a replacement for flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis, who is off to Montpellier in France, is also needed.
He added that two new wing recruits should also be top priority.
“We kicked the season off without a specialist left wing so I opted for Dillyn (Leyds). You can’t persist with so little physical presence in your back three. You face guys like Julian Savea, Waisake Naholo and Nemani Nadolo. It’s frightening. WP have Kobus van Wyk, but need to sign two more wings.”
Coetzee is a great one to talk - he was largely responsible for a very poor backline - both in defense and attacking play. What the Stormers in fact needs are the following:-
Wings
They need at least one back-up wing with Senatla and Kruger available. If they could get JJ Engelbrecht from the Bulls and playing him in his real position - it would help a lot.
Centers
De Allende remains the key and De Villiers will not be available. De Jongh can perhaps be used as a back-up wing - at center he is a dead loss. That means they should try and get a proper 13 and those are scarce. The real 13's that would make a difference would be Venter or Sadie (both thinking players - which De Jongh is not), but the best one would be either Small-Smith or Vorster. Small-Smith should be in the market if latest news is to be believed.
Flyhalfs
The best flyhalf they could possibly obtain is Goosen - they must desperately try and get him back in SA. They could also use as a back-up Du Preez - whom they also have on contract already.
Loosies
There is a problem here. I do not think Burger will play further and there was a rumour that Marcell Coetzee is moving to Cape Town. They have lstadt at seven - but he seems to be injury-prone. Kolisi and Carr is still around, But I think they need another fetcher loosie.
Locks
No problem is they can get Pieter-Steph du Toit and with Botha and Kleyn in the mix, and with Jakkals Schickerling coming back - they would have adequate lock cover.
Props
I think they need a real loosehead to strengthen the side as a result of the loss of Kitshoff - unlike Cariiza a real loss. They have Kebble and one other real prop would add strength to their forward combination. On the Tighthead side they have no real problems.
So what they really need are the following:-
* A wing
* Two centers
* Flyhalf
* 1 Loosie
* 1 Lock
* 1 Loosehead prop
3 of the positions can eb covered if they can get Du Toit, Marcell Coetzee and Goosen and 1 of the center positions could be covered if they can get Small-Smith. The other three positions would be a real problem if Huw Jones and Johnnie Kotzen are leaving as well. They need to reduce the midgets in their backline.
