Much is being made about SA having 15 players from previous RWCs. If experience was that unimportant, then why do the ABs also have so many experienced players in their side?
Have a close look. SA have 15 from 2011 and earlier. The ABs have 13 from 2011 and earlier. SA has two players from as far back as 2003, i.e Victor Matfield and Schalk Burger. The ABs have Keven Mealamu, Ma'a Nonu, Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.

Look at it this way ... there aren't any on this board that have come outright and said we'll win the WC.
Everyone on this board is a "doubter" ...
Why is that?
Is it perhaps that even the so called Meyer groupies believe deep down inside that he's messed up his selections??
We've been going back and forth about this all year long ... only to have the pro Meyer clan do a 180 on us.
That includes his biggest bum chum ... Mozart!!
At least it has now been confirmed that everyone on this board agrees that Mr Heyneke Meyer hasn't selected a team that will see us into the final ... and there are some serious doubts whether we'd even continue after the quarters.
In other words ... we all agree ... he's a useless coach.

Look at it this way. How many on this board have come outright, at this stage, in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011 and said that we would win the RWC.
Every one on this board was a doubter back then as well.
Was it perhaps that even the so-called Mallett [and there were many....]/Streauli/White/PDV groupies believed deep down inside that they have messed up selections?
We've been going back and forth about this since 1999...... only to have the pro Coach of the time clan do a 180 on us.
That includes ..................... need I go on?
Fact is that it is the same every time around. No coach is ever going to please everybody. Live with it.

You've been singing his praises the last 4 years ... I would have thought you'd be the first to tell us not to worry, the trophy's on it's way home.
We just have to pitch up and collect it, right?.
The only thing I do pick up from your posts is the usual criticism of others contributions ...

Nope. I haven't made a prediction simply because I never do that. Whether you like it or not. And whether you think that I am a coward for not making a prediction..... well I don't give a sh!t. The simple reason that it is just not possible to predict what is going to happen. Simple as that.
Look what happened at the last RWC. The moment Aus lost to Ireland, it upset the whole apple cart. Who would have predicted that. huhh?
Think 2007. Who would have predicted England beating Aus, after the hiding we gave them, let alone giving us loads of k@k in the final? Who would have predicted NZ bombing out?
Do we have the players to win the damn thing? Of course we have. Are they prepared for it. Of course they are, and yes, those are only opinions. They are more and if you like them then great. If you don't then DILLIGAF.

I do agree with you that no coach would be-able to make everyone happy in his selections.
I would support this coach if he had made a few odd picks ... but to fcuk it up as badly as he did ... with at least 80% bad picks ...
Sorry ... I just can't support that kind of stupidity.

I think our chances are about par with any othe Bok WC contenders of previous years, bar 2003 and 95. 2003 we were just poor and in 95 we were lucky and the magnitude of the occasion gave us a boost unlike anything witnessed in sports before or after....only my opinion, I know, but I'll stand by it.

We are not going to be lucky this time around - because Meyer selected players on reputation - not performance. Saffex is right about our record against major teams in world rugby - when we did win against England and the AB's last year the win was linked to the younger performing players - in both wins we faced defeat because of Matfield - but were saved by Reinach, Pollard and Lambie.

I'm getting it a bit tired of your persistent whining. So in answer to your question, I'm(sigh) having to repeat myself. So keeping it simple I will go through it again...this time a lot slower.
I have stated in an earlier post that one of two teams will win the RWC. I stated it prior to DA's above opening post. I've also stated in answer to DA's post that the Boks will win their quarterfinal. In effect I'm saying that either the AB's or Boks will win the RWC. I can't make it any simpler, if you still don't understand then please ring someone who cares....please don't bother me. Tx.

The way I see it - we were inches away from beating both the Aussies and the AB's. Kuridrani's try was almost held up and Lood was oh so close to scoring against NZ. We win either or both of those games with the RC in the balance and there wouldn't have been the let down against Arg.
Not much in it.
If we can get Vermuelen back and FDP is even at 80% of his past form our chances are excellent. Boks thrive in the WC environment.
This team is absolutely good enough to win the whole thing.

I agree Oimatey, what is strange is that so many SA posters are so pessimistic. I think it is because the players they like are not picked & that they have doubts about many of those who have been picked. Boks are not the only team that have a good shot, Oz and of course the ABs also have a shot. Ireland have an outside chance also IMO. Of course the Poms have home field advantage.

JW, that is the problem with many Saffers in many ways. They always see the glass half empty. Six months before the start of the 2007 RWC there was a serious campaign to have Jake White fired immediately. It was led by some idiotic journo called Rudolph Lake, IIRC.
Many (most?) Saffers would not pass the Black Dot thing. If you gave them a sheet of white paper with a black dot in the middle and asked them what they see, 99% would see the black dot. One percent will see the white sheet of paper.
