The invisible Jesse Kriel

Did Jesse do a lot of bad things on Saturday. Nope. He made his few tackles, didn't lose the ball and actually had one or two promissing runs in the second half. Jesse doesn't shirk from tackles the way JJ and Goosen do. After he came back into the team with Jeans departure one of his first acts was to bring down a big forward head on at pace.
So he is quick, has courage  and has taken on board the embarrassing defensive error that saw Wales beat the Boks...taken on board D'Arcy's criticism.
But he is still by far our least effective back. Why? Because he simply has no centre's bag of tricks. He has no easy way to make himself relevant. Jean was an intercept hunter and a hard runner at the defence, very often riding the first tackle. Joubert had a nose for the outside gap....Fury played a rover role with many of his tries coming with cuts right next to the breakdown....Adi was superb at backing up the break.

Jesse showed us a nice cut against the ABs, but since then he has been bankrupt.

So perhaps the Boks should use Kriel's pace in a few set moves and try and give him some very specific defensive assignments. He needs direction, right now he is not producing much,
