watching the revolting game pattern of meyer just makes me wonder if meyer wants the boks to be the laughing stock of world rugby. rubbish one off runners smashing and bashing there way to the line is arcanic as anything i have ever seen in rugby. even the pumas look a lot more dynamic with ball in hand then we are.
meyer needs to go irrespective of how we go in the semi's.....i just cannot understand the logic. the kiwi's will be licking there lips because of this mindless aimless kicking forwards smashing up style of rugby.....all this against a injury hammered welsh side.... massive massive work needed but it cannot be done in one week.

I want to say you are ignorant, but the description is too flattering. What is it about pseudo fans that cannot appreciate anything the Boks do that is good? Well sparky, how would you have had us play that game? Please, don't spare the details.
That was real test rugby against the best defence in the competition by far. We did what Australia couldn't do, score a try! You drastically reduce the significance of the result because you have been seduced by the media. These Welsh are beneath you, hey?
If you want a jacked up scoreboard, put your crusty All Black jersey on and watch a blowout win over a pathetic opponent.

those that cannot retort on a comment with a intellectual response usually respond with childish narrowminded name calling....you have once again confirmed that you might have been a victim of very poor poor education system. that being said i do forgive you....at the end of the day its not your fault now is it ???
there is nothing imaginative from the boks on attack and anyone that has half a rugby brain can confirm that the drivel that the boks came up with is not rwc winning stuff.....failure of not seeing where trends are going in rugby and how that filters into the current state of world rugby means that you are as extinct as the dodo....

Lets get this straight - you have on this site two major supporters of the Stampkar Rugby concepts - the type of rugby not played anymore  anywhere - and when some countries do try and play the game the end result is that they get beaten hollow.
The ideals of the Stampkar rugby supporters that players must kick the sh!t out of balls and when passing the ball the first receiver must crashball,  No passing game and to keep the ball in hand is a crime.
I generally just laugh at thei silliness.

makes 2 of us mike......to see even the pumas surpassing the boks in terms of game pattern and intent does make me wonder how far down the hole there arcanic mindsets need to go before they can see how things are going globally. expect more losses to minnows like japan and maybe even georgia ext going forward. you know there is something massive wrong with sa rugby when even countries like georgia looks more able to score tries than the boks....a country with the second biggest amount of registerd players in the world and the richest country in the southern hemisphere should really be a lot more intune on global trends than this. nobody plays this rugby anymore even the dogmatic english and pumas have adopted a more dynamic pattern.
well mike if those stampkar pundits think this is true bok rugby then they are obviously not true bok supporters as this was never the bok way in the past. true bok rugby is brutal direct running from the forwards mixed with quick backs running into space.

They were different kinds of games. Wales unfortunately are very good at taking away the wide option. Only the most deluded of fans would have expected the Boks to throw it wide in that game. Then to compare it to another game, against oppositions of drastically differing strength with different styles of defence and offence and lament that somehow the Boks should have scored more tries? It's utterly laughable to say the least. Maybe the Boks would have had more tries if Lood's hands of stone didn't botch two clear opportunities in the Welsh 22.
Michael, you are not a supporter of modern attacking rugby. You are a fan of 1970 to mid 1980s rugby. Everything you want is from that era.

 DF
I must say the dolt are unfortunately you.   Have you even looked at what happened in the game yesterday.   If the scrummie use a loosie as first receiver more than he did the flyhalf,  how the hell can a ball be taken out wide?   That is a fact of life.   Your simplistic approach about blaming certain players for deficiencies is at best childish.   The problem is the game plan used yesterday - the game plan was a single-minded approach at passing the balls back to the forwards not to the backline.
There was a development in SA Rugby that broke down backline play completely and play 10 or 11 man rugby after the late 1980's and that was clearly associated with the Bulls style of rugby.   They were the players who specialized in passing the ball back to the forwards and using kicking flyhalfs and crashballing 12's as the only alternative  options.
That is why we find ourselves in a state of decline in rugby and then refuse to recog nise the decline even if it hit us in the face.

df does not know the basics of the game.......nobody said throw it wide from the get go but the boks shows zero intent to play into space with the game pattern its showing right now.....its a common cancer and its still not play centric df....only the narrowminded blames the players when the players themselves are only the victim of a system that is counterproductive to creating a style of play that allows us to create that space.....much the same as your a victim of a very 3rd tier education system.
@mike sadly your logic which is 120% correct but logic with narrowminded people like meyer and df is lost. they are the types to cry first when the boks lose to the pumas on a regular basis....the world is surpassing us and soon will be totally past us.

Yep your comments on the SA style of rugby play is spot on. It is outdated.
This goes for S15 rugby as well......just check the 2015 log for S15, very poor showing from all SA teams. Now we are going to add the Kings ....Lord help us!

Unfortunately most Saffer's take it personally when you make a comment or statements that does not fit with their narrative.
But it is going to be a costly error if Meyer adopts the same style of play against the AB's.
Pity because the Boks do have some excellent rugby players at the WC, some are even there as spectators in the stands.

Interesting turnover conceded stat:
Boks: 16
Argentina: 15
Argentina playing the width of the field conceded less turnovers than the Boks bashing and smashing around the fringes.
Wales made 90% of their tackles, Ireland only 78%. Was their tackling better, or did Ireland's defence (the best in the tournament up to now) simply have more of a challenge to deal with?
Both Argentina and the Boks won 94% of their rucks.
Argentina kicks from hand - 20 vs 46 from the Boks. The Boks also made more passes and runs than Argentina, while getting only one try for all their effort.
Boks also had 60% overall possession and territory, Argentina only 48%.
I know it's two different games and two different opponents, but suggesting that our current style of gameplay is particularly effective is questionable. Argentina did a lot more with a lot less.

the stats and the visuals all shows there is a massive problem and we have a massive problem if we think we will make it beyond the semi's......there is 3 teams that actually show intent to probe for space and create attacking chances and one team stuck in the twilight zone with a pattern that is arcanic.
its not only about having the ball but what you do with the ball... the welsh defence was never challenged hence the high tackle success and there performance was helped by a bok team that was never intent on winning but rather playing not to lose.
mindless drone smash and bash nonsense coupled with aimless bad kicking will be canon fodder for our bok team. we had the right mix in joburg in regards to game pattern we lacked finishing and meyer true to form changed his style completely due to this fact.

My take on the game is accurate. First and foremost it was me, not any of you who pointed out the limitations of the centres we have. Secondly, who was it who identified how Wales defended? It would be me. I called for a game that would pick apart the weaknesses of the systems Wales use. Everyone who fell for the siren song of the median believed that the Boks should run Wales ragged with a wide game. A wide game that Wale repeatedly shutdown for a loss when Australia did it. Why run into the teeth of the defence? I was clearly vindicated when the very first time the Boks went wide they turned us over and almost ran it back for a try. Damian of all people! The man who runs over everyone.
Rooinek, have you figure out what a cut pass is? I have toyed with you all year. It was easy, as you always back the wrong horse in every scenario. I challenged you multiple times to form a retort, but you could not. The invitation remains open, the parameters have not changed. Any game any player has played since 2000 until the current tests. We can discuss any aspect of the game. If you think I am wrong, show me where and why. I know you won't. The critics never do. Personal attacks, but never any rebuttal. If you can attack the person, you can remove their argument. That's the gameplan my critics have used all year. They lack the clarity if thoughy to see how they have been humiliated.

Typical Desert Fool response . . . "how dare you disagree with me and I have bested you in every rugby argument we''ve ever had".
In a way it's sad that this loud-mouthed, stupid and self-opinionated fool has such a tenuous grip on reality . . . but you have to admit it's also pretty funny!

There are two utter fols on this site - who think their opinions are supreme and above all other thinking rugby supporters in the world.
The foolish comments of DF on the center issue has nothing to do with the comments made by CM - but is at best self-opinionated junk.   DF's ideas about backline players are basically rubbish.  Anybody who thinks that Morne, Fat Fransie, Juan de Jongh  and Zane Kirchner are ideal backline players and who rates Kurirani as the nest center in world rugby and does not rate Folau as a full back comparable to Kirchner, must be a nutcase.
It has not hit home yet - namely that the playing style adopted by Meyer where the first receiver is not the flyhalf but a forward, destroys backline play completely.

Since when have I been conservative? I want a model like New Zealand, where backs flow seamlessly with backs. I like the wide-wide setup of the Crusaders and All Blacks. Not the thinly spread game of the Lions and Waratahs. If you want to identify conservative, look no further than the calls for Lood. A player with poor hands, poor endurance, limited tackle and catch radius. This is not the selection for a modern game.
Michael, will there ever be a day when you tell the truth. Quote me on saying Kirchner is ideal fullback. Quote me on saying Folau is a poor 15. Quote me on saying Kuridrani is the best centre in world rugby. You won't be able to!

Well Muncher all I see is a bunch of PC warriors, who have very little grasp of strengths and weaknesses, tactics and pressure. Mostly because so few have done a damn thing of consequence in their lives. So they drone on about how stupid the Boks are, how useless a great like Matfield is. The Irish call out for O Connell was so different....classy, loyal, knowledgeable.

You chaps by contrast are adrift, with no loyalties...no nothing really. I feel sorry for the younger chaps and I have tried to present an alternative view from the loser view so prevalent here....to no avail.

Well, tell me what you want the Boks to do differently? Meyer has used a variety of moves, formations and patterns to give these players favorable matchups. The forward aspect of our game is not the problem, it's actually very organised and purposeful, where personnel doesn't break down our play. What is a problem is what happens when the backs do get the ball. What have I been saying for roughly a decade? Centre is the power of your attack! It doesn't matter how you a spin it, your attack hinges on your centres. There is alot more to centre play than running whilst feeling things, that I can assure you. We have unskilled centres. Nearly all of our new gen players look like wings. Generic and unusable.
The reason for all the tears. Over confidence!
Another prediction of mine, though it was so e asy to call it shouldn't really be called a prediction. Bok fans are upset because they thought they were going to rip Wales apart. Ridiculous. Bok fans go through cycles, the next will be a win followed by chest beating and snearing at other sides arrogantly. Followed by another burst bubble and the abandoning of ship. What a tragic bunch.

I was thinking of answering DF on what to do in the upcoming tests, but it is really a waste of time.
For the rest I will add that there are three elements to be borne in mind:
*   Inaccurate and aimless kicking is a definite no-no. *   The ball must be kept in hand in the AB half of the field and outside of the Springboks 22.*    Make sure kicks from inside the 22 find touch and is so far away a quick throw-in would not be possible.*   Keep the ball in hand and prevent ball losses through inaccurate passing and ball losses.*   Breakdown ball protection is a priority.*   Don't be on-dimensional  - vary plays *   Use De Allende and Kriel effectively - bearing in mind they over-shadowed th AB's in the latest RC test.

mike spot on comment......kriel and de allende playing a different pattern received loads of quick ball and the boks created 5 chances of scoring tries of which we only managed to score twice. that shows the pattern is working and just lacks in the  rounding off department. that is the best pattern to play against the all blacks and we had them under the cosh for 60 mins.....same went for the boks against the aussies. what did meyer do he shelved it because of a shock loss to the pumas which was not a game plan issue but rather a issue that the boks forwards did not pitch up at all.
meyer has showed to have little faith in his playing style and its that ultra conservative mindset that will cost him his job at the end of the day. this obsession with playing this style of so called bok rugby is not going to beat the all blacks.
the breakdown is the all blacks biggest weapon and if you target that area you go a long way in beating them.
sadly we dont have the personal at the rwc to target the all blacks

Carpetmuncher, IMO the Boks will give the ABs a tough game & may even win it. Stranger things have happened - 1999 for instance. Weather could be bad, Boks could decide to go for broke & use their backs, kicking game could click & rolling mauls could result in tries. Most Kiwis are expecting a tough game.
