I am not overawed by anything really done by Matfield.  He did some good takes in line-outs (especially in June Welsh tests and in the irish test) - but in other tests his line-out takes was low and  at crucial stages in matches he did the opposite.  The AB tests last year for example.
He was mostly standing around in the backline and that got him credit for tackles.   That was fine - but that reduces the competence of the Tight 5.   Our ball recovery from breakdowns is not what it should be and weakening of the forwards contribute to that.
At best Matfield's performances over the past year was average - just not good enough to qualify him for selection.  The typical example is the Aussie test this year. He was on the field of play and contributed near to zero in that time - and when replaced by De Jager, the latter put in a much better performance than what Matfield produced earlier.
There was very little Matfield achieved playing as a lock I am afraid.   I think that he did not stand out as a player and that is an unfortunate fact his supporters refuse to consider.
From my point of view the situation remains - I have seen nothing of Matfield that would help us in the WC.  The few positives are far out-numbered by too many negatives.

"I think that he did not stand out as a player and that is an unfortunate fact his supporters refuse to consider."

So because these supporters refuse to accept your opinion, they are automatically wrong and know nothing about rugby and you are automatically deemed the expert on this topic and are correct?

I'm not here to prove or dispute anything......... just playing my namesake

Sorry - that is not what I accept at all.   What I believe in is that players should be viewed objectively and people are entitled to their opinion.  I do not in any way try and force people to change their mind at all.
The following description fits memebrs like Mozart and Ceradyne - not me.
"So because these supporters refuse to accept your opinion, they are automatically wrong and know nothing about rugby and you are automatically deemed the expert on this topic and are correct?"
I say that because if you differ with those two - they turn vicious with their personal attacks.   What they write is a disgrace and that about somebody they personally knows nothing about.

Rubbish Perv. I treat posters on their merits. You disagree with me civilly, we can have a debate. Try the attack dog stuff that you, CC and Fartur do and I'm coming back at you in kind. Ignore me and I will ignore you.....we have all heard your views hundreds of times anyway, there's nothing new there. But as Denny points out you can't stop yourself from taking a shot....and then you end up looking for support because you a lways lose. Give it up, you simply dont have the smarts for the word games.

This really is crap.  At the beginning of the year we tried to create an environment where we could disagree on a civil basis.  You broke the agreement repeatedly despite pleas from my side to ensure that both of us stick to the agreement.   Eventually I gave up as well - a person cannot just keep on getting personal attack after personal attack without responding in kind.
The other facts you listed are mutual.  You have listed the same viewpoints from word go and you accuse me of the same deficiency.   When one reads your posts - you only ever talk about experience - never about actual performance - and the list of other sport codes you raise all have to do with age of players.  That is repeated endlessly in what I imagine is a constant harping that the same theory applies to rugby.
Your pervert story is the worst insult anyone could imagine and since you have no basis whatsoever for it - it is also silly and really BS of the worst order.
Other than with you and Ceradyne I have been civil with all other members and the question should always be asked - why the breakdown in relationship in your case specifically?   The answer is that I am not really responsible and merely react to what you come up with.   I have never called you the disgusting name "Moffie" - but you called me "pervert" and then you think I must not react negatively.
However, I am prepared to try and repair the damage and not be uncivil to you whilst still differing from you on issues - but that must be a mutual agreement and kept intact - not broken because you like to do so.

Take a hike Perv. The only thing I'm willing to accept is your absence in discussions with me. I have no interest in your corn pone logic and selective memory.

Well, well old slimeball is at it again.
CM the only suggestion I have is to avoid the "A holes" postings as he is senile, stupid and a pain in the butt.
It is sad to see a person in that situation but he obviously has had a problem all his life and since someone showed him how to type he has nothing else to do but type a load of S.H.I.T.
Wasted and unwanted he is.
In SA they call such a person by his correct title DOOMDOOS.
Shame...trust there are no more like him crawling around.
Cheers and good luck with the markets when they open on Wednesday to all.

The slimeball thinks he runs the site and anybody differing from his views can be maligned to his hearts content.   He was so bad last year that he got hold of my e-mail address to sent me an e-mail about Dave's size and weight - since I did met Dave personally when in London years ago.  I obviously indicated that I did not find Dave the way he described him on site.
The real issue is that the slimebag thinks he is superior to other members, is egocentric and in the process a real liar to boot.  Bad news that one - but if he thinks he can lie and carry on like he normally does - I will respond to his deranged postings in kind.

Mike

Don't you think it is hypocritical of you to open a thread demanding certain things be done or changed, and then start your last post here calling someone a slimeball

Look at the timing of the opening of the threat and the above contribution.  I rally tried to reach some agreement with Mozart - but he rejected it, so that is what my last resort was to clean up the site from what Mozart has brought it down to.

Ockay Mike, I'm a bit lost here

You opened the thread to the editor about calling people names at August 26, 2015, 10:24:30

You made the above name calling post at August 26, 2015, 10:34:20

Maths was never really my strong point..... but stick with me here and I will try and give it a bash.

9 minutes and 50 seconds after opening a new thread which you directed to the editor himself, asking for bans and or restrictions with calling people names...... you call someone names.

That in my book is the precise description of being hypocritical

Do you really think I started the name-calling and personal attacks on this site?  if you think that applies to me - then why is it only in the case of Mozart and ceradyne that is happens?   My comments are basically a reaction to messages and that is why I maintain good relationship with all other members - bar those two.
If I was the only person that Mozart and Ceradunce target - then it would be fine and i must be in the wrong - but looking  at all the other members they attack likewise and that will tell you the real story.

Mike

Where did I say you started anything?.

I merely pointed out the hypocritical flaw in your attempt to get the editor to censor some people

From the times stated above in your post it seems pretty crystal clear to me

Look no further than what happened earlier in this thread and who started the name-calling and insults on this thread and you will get the reason for my response on that  thread.
I posted the other thread in the hope to get away from this type of situation - not because i am hypocritical  but you are welcome to have youw own opinion on the issue.

Mike

You are missing the plot here entirely

You started a new thread

You directed it at the editor to censor certain people

You did exactly what you were moaning about 10 minutes later in another thread

You tell me what is right with that

I am not talking about who started what on whichever thread

You went directly against something that you yourself were trying to get the editor to do in the first place, not even 10 minutes after requesting it

Come on man...... that is as simple as I can put it

In other words, incredibly hypocritical

No reason to discuss it further.  You are fixed in your mind that I am always the wrong one causing problems on this site - so that is your opinion which you are entitled to.

Mike well done for saying nothing good about matfiled whose pathetic play has continued unabated and who is one of our gravest threats to world cup success. I also dont agree he was ever any good. A never has been.
Mike is as sinned against as sinning.  windpomp has attacked Mike and supported Moz from day one. Nothing objective there. Denny isa bosum pal of Moz and Mike alos has no hope of objectivity there. These two have a go at eachother and putting all the blame on either one is nonsense.
Listen to my good friend JW:

Mozart: you are a little over the top on drawing conclusions from an avatar IMO. (JW is a friend of Moz but makes an objective call. Denny cant do this. cerudunce windpomp cant either )

Unconfirmed sources say that Beeno had Noddy as his avatar & to my knowledge no one has called him Noddy. (ou JW is trying to make some obscure poiint!)
Maybe it's time to let this line of banter go?
Ou JW has these moments of lucidity!!
