 A bull s h i t list:

To be on this list means you really consider them good enough to be part of the Bok team, which means any combination must therefore also be good enough...

Imagine this team

1. Nyakane
2. Ntubeni
3. Marcell
4. Lood
5. Lewies
6. Kolisi
7. Elstadt
8. vd Walt
9. Hougaardt
10. Goosen
11. Rhule
12. Frans Venter
13. JJ
14. JP
15. Coetzee

In the bag, you say?

Fuck you really are stupid.......not only is that a good team, but apart from that.......my list contained 50 odd players of which a good few would not make the WC 31......and of the 31 selected only 15 take to the field you profoundly stupid idiot.

Would my starting 15 contain any in your team above.......yes, Marcel, Hougaard and possibly JP.......would I be happy with any of those players in my squad of 31, damn right I would as all are good enough to play test rugby.

You get it yet you idiot?

Not that Meyer will be focusing on the available talent ... it's all about experience and the amount of caps you have that guides his selecting hand.

That is an awful team Truth constructed out of your list. In my view a team that would lose heavily to any of the other top 6 nations. You apparently dont agree Dave and there is the nub of the disagreement.

You think that almost any of our S15 players can make the grade....hell you selected basically 4 teams there, 80% of our S15 starters. But on average these teams struggle to beat the a good NZ S15 team. So how do they beat the best 15 ABs?

The answer is they dont.

The alternative view is there are 15 special players among the 60 you have selected. Players that have already proven themselves at test level....players who tend to keep their place until somebody clearly better arrives.

It's the conflict of anybody can do it vs so me players are special. But it's a conflict resolved long ago....Rudolph vs Jake.....WCs are won by established teams.

They are indeed ... and that's not what we have currently.

Also the chances of us going into the world cup with a new captain is a distinct possibility which means we don't have a settled center pair ... my guess is that Fat Fransie will be called up to fill the void.

So much time wasted.

Tragic.

Thank heavens for those who had the good sense to retire ... for good ... unlike Vic Matfield.

 Mozart
.."WCs are won by established teams."

That term has been as false as anything ever written.   No established team has ever won the WC - since no team ever has won the WC in successive tournaments.  The reason is exactly the so-called established teams.   Winners of WC's keep the players used until the next WC - when they are in the main way past their sell-by dates.
"The alternative view is there are 15 special players among the 60 you have selected. Players that have already proven themselves at test level....players who tend to keep their place until somebody clearly better arrives. "

Superficially the above statements  sounds correct - but for one major problem.   Some players should never have in the mix for selection the 2015 WC squad.  They were coasting along on reputation.  There are much better players then them - but these are ignored and the useless kept on.   It happened in the 2011 WC and will happen again in this WC.   Players that Dave left - like Matfield and Alberts should never be considered - because they are failing even in the most basic requirements.
Then there is the standard Mozart myth which is one-sided in the extreme.  It is not necessarily so that players with top performances in Super 15 will succeed on Test level - Fine thus far.   However, the myth that players who under-perform on Super 15 level will suddenly be performing well on test level - is absolute BS.    This is not a fairy with a wand swinging  it - sayin J.... my magic  wand will turn you into a star performer.

What that idiot picked up from my list was what he perceived to be a weak side and shock shock Moz thought the same.......that is because useless players like Matfield, Morne and de Jongh are not in there.

Every player I mention above is test standard....the art is finding the best 15 from that list, not coming up with what that idiot Troooof came up and implying that I'd be taking on NZ with that side.

I'll help you Troof........my starting 15 and bench would be:

15. Willie 14. Jessie Kriel 13. de Allende 12. Serfontein 11. Senatla 10. Pollard 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Bismark 3. Ma rcel v/d Merwe 4. Willemse 5. Etzebeth 6. Coetzee 7. PSDT 8. Vermeulen (c)

16. Strauss 17. Beast 18. Malherbe 19. Jacques du Plessis 19. Arno Botha 20. Faf 21. Jantjies 23. Vorster

PSDT at 7? Interesting selection. Could work.

Prefer Kriel at 6 to Coetzee.

De Allende at 12 with Mapoe at 13. I like Vorster as well. Still a bit green though. Another season of super rugby will turn him into a monster and a must for Bok selection.

Can't leave out Habana.

Kriel on the wing. I think not.

HouGat at 9 ... no comment!

Only three non-white players in your 23, Saff. That team wouldn't make it out the gate unfortunately.
What would your team look like with 7 quota players in it?

Well I am not going to drop Willie for Kriel and given Kriel has played on the wing, it makes sense I play him there as he is a must for the starting side.

I'd be happy with Kriel at 6

Mapoe has been good, but the likes of Serfontein and Vorster are better.

I am past Habana and JP, they are past it.

On form, I'd be tempted to start Faf at 9.......but Hougaard is my man.

16. Strauss 17. Kitshoff 18. Nyakane 19. du Plessis 20. Carr 21. Faf 22. Pollard 23. Mapoe

I've gone one better with 8 players of colour......but would have been just as happy with Kolbe, Rhule, Mnisi, Paige, Scara, Habana, JP, Mvovo, Mbonambi or Mtembu in the mix.

While the team you have as the starting line-up appears reasonable in terms of individual players, you forget two aspects.

1. Combinations
2. Mental toughness for a WC knock-out game

Just go and assess the combinations one by one and you will see that, except for the loose-trio, it is an unbalanced team with no of few combinations that compliment each other.

Assess the players one by one and try to imagine which ones have the mental edge over any of their opponents in a crunch match...
-------

(But the bad news for ALL is the fact that I read that Ruan Pienaar will probably be one of the first choice scrum-halves).

So it doesn't matter who you select at 1 - 8, or 10 - 15, we will always be 5 steps behind. If he plays there will be no combinations anywhere and the opposition will have the upper-hand mentally.

I don't select sides based on combinations, I select the best 15.......the best generally are the best because they are mentally tough.

One thing I would never do is select the likes of say Matfield just for experience sake or mental toughness.....he might have all that, but is a liability as a player

 I'd play the whole WP front row for the Boks at some stage, but we have to phase in players.So here goes.1. Beast2. Bismarck3. Koch4. Eben5. Any other 5 except VM..Lood, Willemse,...6. Marcel7. Burger8. Thormeulen.9. Faf10. Pollard11. Habana12. DdA13. JdJ 14. Hendricks/Senatla15. WillieBenchTrevor,Scarra,Kitsie,MatfieldNazeem/KolisieFdP/ReinachLambieSteppie/Vorster.
For starters I would probably have Jannie on the bench. I know im a bit thin on backs on the bench, but I can't see any other way. Scarra to replace Bissie when Kitsie replaces Beast.Habana deserves his spot until he really looses form, but I don't see that happening. If it wasn't for BEE, Combrinck would have been my first choice 14.

It will take me quite a long time to get the ESPN stats collated - so for the time being I will give you the point scores by the two players:-
Test Rugby     -           Kriel               4095   Points                              Coetzee          3245      "
Foxsport         -          Kriel                 548      "     Log  1                              Coetzee           442      "     Log  7
NZ Herald      -       Kriel                 442      "     Log   1                             Coetzee           278      "     Log   13
In both the Foxsport and NZ Herald evaluation Kriel is the no 1 loosie in Super 15 and Coetzee no 7 and 13 respectively.

 Mozart aka Snakesh!t
I do not have my facts wrong - De Jongh was a failure in tests in 2012 and since then a hopeless defender in Super 15 to boot.  Anyone punting him as Springbok 13 - must have their head read.
By the way - why did De Jongh get the ball once in that test?   Because he was exactly in a position where  the ball could not come to him and any passing of the ball would have been impossible.   Constantly out of position - the bugger was useless then and even Meyer left him out of contention since.
The last time when reference was made to De Jongh - you turned around and attacked posters as being racialists - any change from then?

de Jongh was fucking useless against England......went AWOL as he was way out of his depth.

He has done nothing all S15 in a winning side, why on earth would that change at a higher level huh?

The guy is physically not up to test rugby.....you cant have a little squirt trying to stop rampant test players head on, or expect him to impose his little frame on attack.

Most of test rugby is played in traffic, not wide open spaces seen in S15 rugby.......catch a bloody wake up. de Jongh is a joke.......talented little player who is just far too small to play test rugby. Would get tossed about like a little rag doll.

He was a disgrace against England........exposed for what he really is.......a little guy out of his depth. 87kg does not wash as a test 13, he is 10kg too light......its not even marginal......even clueless Meyer knows that

Don't be reticent now Draad . . . you'd pick the entire WP starting XV plus bench for the Springboks if you had half the chance.

My Bok team to play the Wallabies in July (taking into consideration current form, current injuries and current quota expectations) . . .

15 Jesse Kriel
14 Ruan Combrinck
13 Lionel Mapoe
12 Damian de Allende
11 Bryan Habana
10 Handre Pollard
9. Francois Hougaard
8. Duane Vermeulen
7. Siya Kolisi
6. Marcell Coetzee
5. Eben Etzebeth
4. Jacques du Plessis
3. Frans Malherbe
2. Bismarck du Plessis
1. Beast Mtawarira

16 Adriaan Strauss
17 Steven Kitshoff
18 Trevor Nyakane
19 Andries Bekker (assuming he's available)
20 Nizaam Carr
21 Faf de Klerk
22 Pat Lambie
23 Seabelo Senatla

That's not the side I expect Heyneke Meyer to pick mind you.

One or two players I had to overlook for quota purposes.

I ignored Pieter-Steph because he won't be fit in time.

Elton Jantjies, Jaco Kriel, Vincent Koch, Cobus Reinach and Jan Serfontein are all players I would like to have included and a bit unlucky not to at least make the bench.

I think lock is a big problem and Pieter-Steph's injury means I'm forced to select an overseas based player like Andries Bekker (or alternatively Paul Willemse) and I think realistically we must accept that Victor Matfield is going to be in the mix . . . hopefully on the bench as an impact player rather than a starter. The likes of Lood de Jager, Ruan Botha and Stephan Lewies still have a lot to prove in my opinion.

There are a good few players in form that are hard to ignore......Coetzee, Jessie Kriel, Sithole, Combrink, de Allende, Vorster, Odendaal, Frans Venter, Mapoe, Jantjies, Faf, Kitshoff, Malherbe, Marcel v/d Merwe, Koch, Ackers, Jacques du Plessis, Ruan Botha (before his injury) Kolisi, Carr, Kriel and Whiteley

As for lock, I think we have greater depth than ever.......I am a big fan of Etzebeth, Willemse, PSDT, Lood, du Plessis, Botha, Jean Kleyn and Lewies......sadly a few are injured and Meyer has ignorantly let Willemse slip his net.

Rooi, I like your side except for Hougie at 9 and the fact that the backs are a bit green.I really wish the whole WP side was good enough for the Boks, but that's unfortunately not the case. I want the 2 props to start, but then I lose Beast, and his POC status. Seeing that the WP scrum combination does well, I would play a POC nr.2 who happens to fit in with the other combination. I know it's not ideal, but our reality. Saffex, as for JdJ, I was having a jest at you and mike. I do however want a regular 13 playing for the Boks. Mapoe has less experience,  but I will gladly give him a go as well.

With respect - some comments
I have in the main no real problems with your proposed team - but think their may be some hitches here and there.
2.   On proper form at present - and especially in the matches since his return from banning - there has been a vast improvement in the performance of Bismarck.  For me it looked increasingly like eh is regaining the top form lacking in 2014.   Strauss is acceptable - but under the circumstances I think that Bismarck should start with Strauss on the bench.
5.  I still have my doubts as to the availability of Bekker and whether he would be in a fit enough condition to contribute to the Tight 5.   If he is - then I would have no serious problem with his inclusion.
6.  I think that this should be between Coetzee and Kriel and that the latter has the upper hand in this case.   What I would do here is I would probably prefer Kriel at 6 and move Louw to 7.
7.  My first choice here would be Flo - so I agree with you there.
9.  I think the choice here would be tween De Klerk and Reinach, but we will have to see what the line of thinking is by Meyer.  I think both should be in the broader squad.
12 and 13.  This depend entirely on whether De Villiers is available or not.  If he believes he is not good enough then he would not make himself available for selection.  Lets assume the latter is the case - then by all reasonableness the selection for 12 should be De Allende.  What then with 13.  Since there are negatives attached to each of the players at 13 - one will ahve to consider the one with the least negatives as the better selection.  I am looking at the game on Saturday with particular interest and especially at the no 13 position.  Because of his opponent being De Jongh, it may not be a strong enough test for Vorster to contend with - but if he repeats his top class performances thus far at 13 on Saturday, I would definitely think he is the most suitable candidate for selection to that position.
14.   I am not impressed with the defense of Hendricks and think that Combrinck should get a look in.
17    You talk about Willie being off form - I think the last few matches showed the really off form player being Kriel.  I think that he has in a way being worked out by the opposition - thus curtailing his effectiveness.   Willie is much more difficult to contain and I think that Kriel will get there too.  At this stage I would play Willie at 15 and put Kriel on the bench.
Bench
I am hesitant  about the scrumming abilities of Van der Merwe and would prefer Vincent Koch on the bench
I am a great admirer of Schalk Burger and think that he is the ideal impact player we need.   Alberts is a dead loss as an impact player - so I would go with Burger on the bench.
Fourie du Preez only if he is match-fit - otherwise either Reinach or De Klerk - depending on who is starting.

Mozart if Mapoe is to be utilized - he should be on the wing.  What is interesting is the center combination for the crunch match on Saturday where the Lions will have Hollenbach at 12 and Vorster at 13.
A huge challenge for De Jongh to face - I think h is going to come off second best in that one.

Mike I overlooked Schalk. I would definately want him in the match 23. Tough one, because I still maintain that Alberts is suited to the slower Northern pitches and can cover lock, so good to have on the bench. At the end of the day we have a lot of good loosies, and that means some good players aren't going to play at the WC. Maybe move Alberts to cover lock and include Schalk as aditional cover for the loosies? PSDT is not a sure thing as far as injuries are concerned, so he should only be bracketed in.
Mike & Moz, I guess you are both right about the form of Kriel, and anyway, I can't see Meyer dropping Willie for him. Still, I'd like to see what Kriel can deliver at that level.
Funny thing is that this is the one year that we really needed the incoming tours to test guys like Kriel, Faf, PSDT, Bekker, Jantjes and F Du Preez. Some to see if they have what it takes, and others to see if they STILL have what it takes. I don't think the rugby Champs is going to get the best from NZ, Aus and SA this year. I think all three will just be using it as a dress rehearsal.

I see Lestat is still bumbling along with his pathetically ignorant takes on players......what a yawn

As for Kriel having lost form, crap he has not......its more about the Bulls as a whole who have dipped in form.

Kriel has proved his class and needs investment, but our stupid coach will miss the boat.

Every player misses tackles, so the fact that AC beat Mapoe means stuff all. de Jongh gets owned in that fashion on a regular basis.

I would not start Mapoe at 13, but he would definitely feature as a true possibility.

My 3 centres would be 12. Serfontein, 13. de Allende and Vorster on the bench
