A strike on the post and then three straight misses when the game was in the balance...contrast Morne's 10 out of 10.

For the rest Voster was pretty ordinary, one lucky bounce aside. The Mapoe for the Boks move was put in perspective by AC. And Schalk vd Merwe struggled against Kepu which puts his dominance of Marcel in even worse a light for the latter.

And why  Liarmike was heavily punting Potgieter for the Boks is a mystery.

On the positive side those early runs by Kriel were huge. And Faf continues to impress with his guts and energy. The breaks were super but his tackle on Naiyaravoro   was epic...it recalled Joost on Lomu. On the basis of that tackle alone I'd  pick him for the Boks 22. I don't think there is another SA scrummie who pulls that off.

"I have two wishes, beat the Tahs and Faf to make the Bok team."

From an earlier post of mine....we're on the same page for sure.

As for poor wee Jantjies....he just folded bigtime, say no more.

Thought Kwagga Smith did a great job slotting into the 15 man game and yes Potgieter would be good for the Ozzies but he'd be pretty ordinary with what there is running around locally .

Anyone trumping Potgieter is clueless. Cheika uses him as muscle power and it works well for them aga inst certain teams.

Ag Foeitog - Mozart took one case where last year when i said Potgieter was a player to be considered, since the other alternatives - such as Mohoje was poor and Burger and Labuschagne was out of consideration due to injury.  Alberts - the Village idiots constant choice - was BS all along and ended up injured as well.
Mozart is going crazy because Morne kicked all the goal kicks on Friday  - but cleanly did not mention that the rest of his game was standard Morne at flyhalf - at best poor and useless.     We need a flyhalf - not a boot - at 10.

That is even more so on your part - you specializes in rubbish talking on this site.  But you add to your rubbish deceit as well - for instance using stats when it fits your purpose and leaving out the rest as well.
You went nuts about Morne Steyn converting kicks at goal - but would not mention that the rest of his game was standard Morne fare - worse than that of the other flyhalfs in SA.
You shouted about De Jongh making line breaks - but kept quiet about the fact that in all those breaks he beat only 1 defender.  Then you keep quiet about the fact that he manage another standard De Jongh play - losing possession of the ball FOUR times.
Then there is the standard Mozart lie. I never denied that I suggested that Potgieter could be considered for Springbok selection.  The following quote is an outright lie - but normal with you:-
"You spend so much time denying what you said before with total conviction"
Contrary to that my actual comments were the following: -
"Mozart took one case where last year when i said Potgieter was a player to be considered, since the other alternatives - such as Mohoje was poor and Burger and Labuschagne was out of consideration due to injury."

That represents no denial of what I wrote last year.  So another lie by the biggest liar on this site.
You screamed about Vorster being slow and now you find another reason to attack him and that is he only performs because of a lucky bounce.   And this only this weekend in three matches.   How the hell can anyone ever take you seriously on rugby issues is unbelievable.

So you preferred Vorster in spite of de Jongh gaining many more metres....because deJongh's breaks didnt involve beating enough defenders. So how many defenders did Vorster beat I wonder..oops, that would be nada, zippo, none.

Oh losing the ball at 10 and at 9 is less damaging than losing the ball at 12? Now I see your logic. You didn't choose de Jongh over Voster despite the fact that he gained more than 2 times the yardage, made 6 clean breaks and missed no tackles to Voster's 2 clean breaks, 25% of tackles missed  and  no defender's beaten....because losing the ball at 12 is so much more damaging than at 10. Or perhaps any mistake by de Jongh, even if it was understandable.....has to be magnified way beyond context.

Liarmike you are a master class in bias.

De Jongh is an important breakdown presence, especially when the Stormers play a wide-wide and need secure ball for the return phases. His decoy running with Kolbe creates alot of space out wide for DA to attack. I have to say Kolisi has been very good in that regard as well. But yes, de Jongh is a very important player in that backline. Without him DA would have to function more as a 12 and not a hybrid 13-wing, and as we saw again on the weekend, he struggles in that capacity.

The Donkey brain again and seriously so.  When making selections like that one compares all the players playing at 9 with each other.  Not a 9 with a 12 like you imply now.  There is no way that I even implied that possession losses is not a problem at 9 - but a problem at 13.
You are way off the mark again - but that is normal with you.   So possession losses is less of a problem at 13 than it is at 9.   What is the point.  At 9 there are ample other players that can cover ball losses than at 13 - because in that case the defence is thin.
Look - I said that De Jongh had a good game yesterday - but those possession losses are totally unacceptable.   One is bad - 4 knock ons in a game is atrocious.

This idea of Letsal that De Allende does not perform as a 12 is BS  in the extreme - that has been  his refrain for weeks and it is not even remotely based on facts - just one of his crazy ideas.
The only breakdown protection and ball recoveries are in fact made by De Allende.  D e Jongh is not effective because of deficient physicality.  He is pushed out of the way with the greatest of ease.

But you did select Faf with three turnovers....you fraud. Apparently that didn't matter.....and you said you would have chosen Jantjies, except for the kicking.... Let me remind you of exactly what you said about Jantjies
"Problem no 2 is that I would have picked Jantjies - but his missed goal kicks in the end turned a easy match to win into an extremely difficult one."
There is no confusion...turnovers were no problem for Faf, no problem for Jantjies....but dispositive for de Jongh whose stats were otherwise vastly superior to Voster.
Another clear case of stinking bias.

de Jongh's lost balls were not the result of poor skill. One was having his arm hit, just great defence, the other was being spun around causing him to spill ball. Again context is key. de Jongh was however a key contributor to DA being set loose. He is so often the decoy that creates the space, if not d e Jongh then some forwards et all. As evidenced by the last game. But yes, one will praise DA but the players who are part of that process get nothing. That's very poor form. Kolbe is another, as well as Leyds.

There is real bias on this Board against WP based Cape Coloured players. I have noted it before with other posters. Yet these fellows are capable of outplaying the Pacific behemoths with just a hint of space. They are one of our great resources....totally denied by those who think You have to be huge to tackle. Look at Faf' s tackle on the huge Brumbie wing....JJ couldn't have done that in 100 years. Its technique not size that matters in open field.....size counts in 10 and 12 channels. And ironically those same posters want Jantjies at 10. Confusion is rife.

Moz, you are right. Moderntest ruck is about attacking seams in concentrated doses. Because it is the softest part of the defence and because you can get their quickly with better support. It's the most logical thing to do, and why fancy backrow moves are far less common in today's game. Your 10 is right there on those seams. And 12s are the strong right arm of the backline getting over the gain line.
As per the coloureds. I do believe there is a genetic component that allows them to hold their own against opponents almost twice their weight and size. An extreme case would be Gio in 2010 at home against New Zealand. He had Muliaina, Nonu and Rocokoco run hard down his throat and he literally folded them in the tackle. Nonu was dumped in spite of having size and momentum (Gio was stationary). But still we heard he was too small! The same people who tell me to give Lambie a chance tell me players like Gio, who have debunked their critics, are too small and weak. It's ridiculous!! Kolbe and Lleyds are others who have held their own. Hell, Kolbe dumped Higgingbottom on his backside.

Oh what utter fucking rubbish, Jantjies once again was the best SA 10 by some distance, so much so that I would be inclined to start him ahead of Pollard in the tests. Same can be said of Faf de Klerk at 9.

The odd missed kick for poles does not define a player......his kicking all comp has been great.

Jantjies is on fire and apart from having the best attacking skills of all our 10's right now, his defence is as solid as they come.

Jantjies for Bok 10 NOW is my call.

At test level Jantjies will have to play a more direct game with greater physicality. He won't be playing a fast and loose game with runners like that taking the heat off him. It's the same scenario as Goosen in 2012. But in typical SA tradition, we must resist the same exam over and over. Let's hope you all pass this time. LOL!

Moronic my position on de Allende is nothing like your position on de Jongh....it's honest. I think right now he is our most dangerous back ball in hand. But his defence is unreliable....it's not an aggression deficiency like JJ, it's technique. It should be fixable. it's also not clear whether he is best suited to 12 or 13. If Jean was around he would make a fine 13. Without Jean he might have to play 12....but that will be a learning experience at test level in a year that leaves little room for learning.

Your reflex position on Leyds, de Jongh and Kolbe is pure bias.....you make no attempt to understand the obvious value of these players.

Well, the answer to the DA question this: how are the Stormers using DA? More like a wing/outside centre. That has been beyond obvious! All you have to do is see who is creating space for who. The entire Stormers game plan is built on giving DA the chance to bet people in space and have the back three play off of him. How can a person be so blind to such a simple and basic reality? What a world we live in.

I like all 3 of JdJ, CK and DL, but there are shortcomings in all 3, but that's also true for basically each and every player in the game.1.De Jongh has some defencice issues, but it's not as bad as Mike thinks. He has some issues passing right some times.2. Kolbe is doing remarkably well for his size, but he will always be struggling competing for the high ball in the air, being as short as he is. Big problem for a 15.3. Leyds' play reminds me of Habanna, but he has problems with defence as well, but that will improve with experience.I would however prefer not to have all 3 on the park at the same time, especially against big opposition.

My comment to those having a go at Jantjies...

Sure, he missed 3 kicks at the end.
Its always easy to revel in ones failures when picking up individual incidents along ones path.
But when you look at his over all performance(s) this season, he has been nothing short of magical.
He has brought so much life in to the Lions back play... his interlinking, timing of his passes, his runs, even his defense has been good.

Hell, he played a massive role in the Lions beating the Tahs.

Lets not look at individual instances, but rather at the overall picture.

I'm sure Barack Obama, Muhammed Ali, Don Bradman and Richard Branson have slipped up on many occasions en route to greatness.

I may not be expressing myself in the perfect manner, but you get the gist of what i am trying to get across.

If HM was picking a team to play next week, I'd have Polly at 10 and Jantjies on the bench.

But if Bambie was fit... and in the same form he was in 8 weeks ago, he'd by my bench option.
