"But taking a very well intentioned (I assume) meeting or get together, where people put their individual differences aside to meet the face behind the online name, and have a really good time and enjoy each others company and twist it around later to try and ridicule, lie or embarrass someone, just shows a distinct lack of class in my book, irrespective of who you are or what has transpired."
Very well put, DA. And there is a bit of history as to how that meeting came about, I'm primarily responsible for it, and it's something I've learnt to regret, afterall it's like you say a meeting which was meant to be of good intent.
I'm winding the clock back to a time when SAFFA posters gathered in the early years of rugby message boards. Some expats extended their relationships further than the message board...those were great times.
Sapp and I were in one as the above, Likewise Moz and myself. Moz mentioned he was stopping in London on his way back to Chicago, my understanding of a normal routine for him as he made his way back from holidaying in the Cape.
Sapp emailed me and asked me as a favour to ask Moz if he would meet with him in London. Moz and Sapp at that time had an amicable relationship on the MB but it didn't extend beyond it.
Naturally enough I couldn't see any reason why not to and the meeting was arranged.
Like I say, I now regret having played a role in arranging a well intentioned get together of two SAFFAS who have a common interest, Rugby.
Private meetings as far as I'm concerned remain private and it's classless to bring it into an open domain.
About the photo I sent him. Two years out from the 2007 WC I was fortunate enough to meet a poster on that same site, her nick is MO(NH), who alongside of her hubby is a personal friend of Jake White. When she learnt that I was holidaying in Cape Town at the same time as she and her hubby she privately emailed me and asked me, seeing I was such a great fan, if I'd like to meet JW.
Naturally I jumped at the opportunity. Sapp at that time had no issues with JW and mentioned his envy on the MB. It was later, holding that photo up as a trophy that I sent it to him.
The photo was not so much about me than it was about me and members of my family posing with the great one.
Once again private correspondence, which he Sapp has dragged into the gutter as he has done with the meeting between him and Mozart.
I believe in a line being drawn in the sand, not to be crossed, doing so shows a lack of class.
I rest my case.
