Oh boy energized atheisists. Enthusiastically promoting nothing.....can anything be more     facile. The thing that is so pathetic  is these muscular atheists think they have discovered something.
Leave people to be believe what they wish, because no man who has ever lived has a clue about our origins.  And the big risk now is not Christian intolerance, it's intolerance to Christians.

Like it or not, in our imperfect existence Christianity still embodies the core values most of us subscribe to, it's replacement with a vacuum is leading to  to unanticipated problems.

Becs its very disappointing to see you come up with that oild hardy of who created God as it is easily anwred and I have already posted the answer to this really quite chioldish query
Logic dictates that there must have been an initial cause of all else that exists, an uncaused cause. Because the alternative would be an eternal series of causes and effects that could not logically exist since it would have no origin.

Hope you can follow this simple but unbreakable logic.

First of all Sharkbok provide some evidence that Hitler repented. I have never ever seen this suggested by any historian.Sounds like another satanic attempt by atheists to discredit Christ and his Church.

Nobody needs to go to hell as God has said that whomsever believes in HIM (Christ) will not perish but have everlasting life. That means anybody. What can happen however is that as one continually hardens one heart against God like you are doing it becomes less likely but never impossible.
Be clear on one FACT - nobody is worthy of Gods heaven. All have sinned and come short.

Becs science has proved the existence of God. Science has concluded that once there was nothing ans now ther si a Universe. Hence you have the atheist Stephen Hawkins , Krauss and Dawkins trying to prove that nothing created the universe and failing dismally and becoming a laughing stock. There had to be an agent with the attirbutes described in the bible. Its great that science has been catching up with the bible and not leading folk astrtay as it used to in its more ignorant times.
Re calling atheists fools. God has called them fools and who am I to disagree. There is no chance of Him being wrong about it after all.
As I consider the evidence and I have presented reams of it here (Only I suspect much of it wasnt read as it is too much for a darkened mind to bear) I am cannot find a single reason to say atheists are not fools. The mind boggles as to how foolish they are!
Sorry about this but its time the foolish atheist wised up. Realising youare a fool is the first step in the process. Ou rooitwit is a darwinian dinosaur and needs to step into the 21st century! Haha hahahahahahahaha

Becs you can safely forget about the god particle delusion being pedalled by these foolish atheists. Read this post, yes plese do and get enlightened. This is an excellent article and demolishes the atheistic folly. It could be a bit too much for some like ou Sharkbok who prefers his childish and very silly little posters and cartoons BwahahahhahahaYou need some intellect to grasp these things so expect ou Sharkbok to be missing in action re this one!

Explaining the origin of the universe is an enormous challenge for those seeking to deny their Creator: How could a universe come from nothing? The challenge is so great that some have argued that the universe simply did not even have a beginning, but has existed eternally. However, because most professing atheists have accepted the big bang model of the universe, they have accepted the premise that our universe did indeed have a beginning. Hence, they have a need to explain that beginning.

Theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss presented in a recent book his claim that the laws of physics could have created the universe from nothing.1 Likewise, other physicists offer similar arguments.( Now is that not incredibly FOOLISH!!! See the end ofthe article if in doubt - Prof Lennox demolished Ha wkins on this re the law of gravity))

They appeal to the well-known phenomena of “virtual particle” creation and annihilation. The spontaneous (but short-lived) appearance of subatomic particles from a vacuum is called a quantum fluctuation. These subatomic particles appear and then disappear over such short time intervals that they cannot be directly observed. However, the effects of these virtual particles can be detected; they are, for instance, responsible for a very subtle effect on the spectrum of the hydrogen atom called the “Lamb shift.” The short lifetimes of these virtual particles are governed by the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (HUP), which says that a short-lived state cannot have a well-defined energy.

The HUP places a limit on the time that a quantum fluctuation can persist. The greater the energy of the fluctuation, the shorter the time that it may last. It is for this reason that virtual particles appear and then disappear after very short intervals.

Krauss and other evolutionary physicists argue that the universe itself is the result of such a quantum fluctuation. However, the HUP itself presents an apparent difficulty for this claim. One would intuitively expect the energy content of the entire universe to be enormous. Hence, even if one were to argue that the universe did “pop” into existence via a quantum fluctuation, the energy content of the universe would be so large that the corresponding time would be vanishingly small, and the newly born universe would then immediately vanish. It is, therefore, difficult to see how our enormous universe could have resulted from such a fluctuation.

Evolutionary physicists argue, however, that if the total energy content of the universe were exactly zero, then a universe resulting from such a fluctuation could persist indefinitely without violating the HUP. This is admittedly a clever argument. Have the “new atheists” found a genuinely convincing way to explain our universe’s existence apart from God? (READ ON OAKS READ ON!!)

Not really. The argument hinges on the claim that the total energy of the universe is exactly zero, and this claim is based squarely on Big Bang assumptions. Stephen Hawking writes:

The idea of inflation could also explain why there is so much matter in the universe….The answer is that, in quantum theory, particles can be created out of energy in the form of particle/antiparticle pairs. But that just raises the question of where the energy came from. The answer is that the total energy of the universe is exactly zero.2

Despite Hawking’s blithe assertion, no human being can possibly know the precise energy content of the entire universe. In order to verify the claim that the total energy content of the universe is exactly zero, one would have to account for all the forms of energy in the universe (gravitational potential energy, the relativistic energies of all particles, etc.), add them together, and then verify that the sum really is exactly zero. Despite Hawking’s intelligence and credentials, he is hardly omniscient.

So the claim of a “zero energy” universe is based, not on direct measurements, but upon an interpretation of the data through the filter of the Big Bang model. As hinted in the above quote, the claim comes from inflation theory, which states that the universe underwent a short, accelerated period of expansion shortly after the Big Bang. But “inflation” is an ad hoc idea that was attached to the original Big Bang model in order to solve a number of serious (and even fatal) difficulties.3 Hawking, Krauss, and others are making the claim of a zero energy universe because it is an expected consequence of inflation theory. However, for someone who does not have an a priori commitment to the Big Bang (and inflation theory), it is not at all clear that the universe’s total energy would be exactly zero. In fact, it seems extremely unlikely.

Moreover, when virtual particles momentarily appear within a vacuum, they are appearing in a space that already exists. Because space itself is part of our universe, the spontaneous creation of a universe requires space itself to somehow pop into existence.

In his recent book, Krauss spends very little time addressing this key point. Most of the book consists of a defense of the Big Bang, anecdotal stories, and criticisms of creationists. It is only near the end of the book that he actually seriously addresses this key issue (how space itself could be created from nothing), but he spends very little time on it, despite the fact that the book is over 200 pages long.4 He argues that quantum gravity (a theory that merges quantum mechanics and general relativity) could allow space itself to pop into existence. One obvious problem with this claim is that a workable theory of quantum gravity does not yet exist.(bwahahahahaha this dodger is beinf=g seriously caught out!)

Moreover, the general claim that the laws of physics could have created our universe suffers from a number of serious logical difficulties. Our understanding of the laws of physics is based on observation. For instance, our knowledge of the laws of conservation of momentum and energy come from observations made from literally thousands of experiments. No one has ever observed a universe “popping” into existence. This means that any laws of physics that would allow (even in principle) a universe to pop into existence are completely outside our experience. The laws of physics, as we know them, simply are not applicable here. Rather, the spontaneous creation of a universe would require higher “meta” or “hyper” laws of physics that might or might not be anything like the laws of physics that we know.

But this raises another problem. Since such hypothetical meta or hyper laws of physics are completely outside our experience, why do atheistic physicists naively assume that rules like the HUP would even apply when describing the universe’s creation? They freely speculate about other (unobservable) universes in an alleged “multiverse” that can have laws of physics radically different from our own. Since the HUP is known to be valid only within or inside our universe, it is not at all clear why they would assume that the HUP would even apply when discussing our universe’s creation. Perhaps the HUP is indeed part of these hyper laws of physics, but one could just as easily argue that it is not. One can engage in all kinds of speculation here, but such speculation is not science.

Moreover, even if these supposed higher laws of physics actually existed, in order for them to create the universe, they must have an existence apart from the universe. But this presents a dilemma for the atheist who says that the cosmos is all that exists.(BOY DO THESE ATHEISTIC FOOLS GET THEM SELVES INTO A HOPELSS TANGLE!!!!

Before his death, Carl Sagan acknowledged in correspondence with ICR scientist Larry Vardiman that he recognized this problem for his worldview: His view of origins required the laws of physics to create the cosmos, but because he did not acknowledge his Creator, he could not explain the origin of the laws themselves.5 The existence of physical laws external to the cosmos itself was an obvious violation of his well-known axiom “The Cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be.”6

Of course, the atheist could try to dodge this difficulty by resorting to the claim that the cosmos simply had no beginning and is eternal.

But even this avoidance leaves unresolved difficulties. For instance, some are claiming that the cosmos as a whole—the so-called “multiverse”—is eternal, but that it contains infinitely many individual universes (a consequence of modern inflation theory). (HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA THERE IS NO END TO THE SPECULATIONS OF THESE FOOLISH ATHEISTS!!!) According to this view, it is only our particular universe that began 13.7 billion years ago. The existence of other alleged (but unobservable) universes supposedly explains our seemingly improbable existence—because the multiverse contains infinitely many universes, the laws of physics and chemistry in at least some of these universes would have properties necessary for life. Thus, our existence is supposedly explained because we just happen to live in such a universe.

A glaring fallacy exposes this argument: While the laws of physics and chemistry in our universe do indeed allow life to exist, they do not allow life to evolve. The laws of physics and chemistry simply are notfavorable to the evolution of life.

For decades, creationists have pointed out the insurmountable difficulties with “chemical evolution” scenarios.7, 8, 9 These difficulties don’t vanish simply because someone claims that other (unobservable) universes exist. Even if the laws of physics and chemistry in every single one of these other supposed universes did allow for life to evolve, those laws from another universe could not explain the existence of life in this universe. This should have occurred to the atheists—but their argument demonstrates “vain imaginations” and “foolish, darkened hearts” (Romans 1:21-23).

AMEN AND AMEN. ANYONE HAVING READ THis ARTICLE TO THE END WOULD HAVE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE ATHEIESTs ARE INCREDIBLY FOOLISH. I would add obstinately dishonest as well.

Despite the impressive academic credentials of those promoting the “universe from nothing” idea, the scenario is utterly unreasonable, and no Bible-believing Christian should be intimidated by these “vain imaginations.”

I mentioned to you that when one gets saved you are translated out of the kingdom of DARKNESS into the kingdom of His dear SON.So manking is living in the kingdom of darkness. Satan is devouring people and children. Mankind is recieving the rewards of Satans rule.
God respected mankinds choice. In the same way he respects your choice to reject the salvation he offers through the death of Christ our sin bearer on the cross. This is God plan to rescue mankind from Satan's kingdom and terrible grip.
You in your extreme foolishness are railing against your Maker and accusing him of all sorts of terrible things. Very, very foolish and only serves to reveal the darkness of your current estate. Repent snapster while there is yet time.

Becs indulgences are not biblical. The catholics follow many man made notions and are not a Christian Chuch if you define a Christian Church as being a bible believing and born again community.
Seb warned you that there were false expressions of Christianity and this is so. When one is born again one has little trouble in identifying the true from the false.
If you want to find the truth read your bible and pray and ask God to teach you and reveal Himself to you and of course to open your blind eyes and deaf ears. I sincerely hope you will not continue much longer in the kingdom of darkness. What a dismal place that is and what a terrible prospect it holds. Flee to the Saviour!!

Introduction

God condones slavery?

Skeptics claim that the God of the Bible approves of and encourages slavery. What they won't tell you is that selling a person into slavery was grounds for the death penalty, according to the Old Testament...

Rich Deem

The claim is often made that the Bible approves of slavery, implicating God as its supporter, since rules governing slavery can be found in the both the Old and New Testament. Since virtually everyone agrees that forced, involuntary servitude is morally wrong, how can Christians justify the Bible's apparent support of slavery?

What the Old Testament says about slavery

First, we must recognize that the Bible does not say God supports slavery. In fact, the slavery described in the Old Testament was quite different from the kind of slavery we think of today - in which people are captured and sold as slaves. According to Old Testament law, anyone caught selling another person into slavery was to be executed:

"He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death." (Exodus 21:16)

So, obviously, slavery during Old Testament times was not what we commonly recognize as slavery, such as that practiced in the 17th century Americas, when Africans were captured and forcibly brought to work on plantations. Unlike our modern government welfare programs, there was no safety-net for ancient Middle Easterners who could not provide a living for themselves. In ancient Israel, people who could not provide for themselves or their families sold them into slavery so they would not die of starvation or exposure. In this way, a person would receive food and housing in exchange for labor.

So, although there are rules about slavery in the Bible, those rules exist to protect the slave. Injuring or killing slaves was punishable - up to death of the offending party.1 Hebrews were commanded not to make their slave work on the Sabbath,2 slander a slave,3 have sex with another man's slave,4 or return an escaped slave.5 A Hebrew was not to enslave his fellow countryman, even if he owed him money, but was to have him work as a hired worker, and he was to be released in 7 years or in the year of jubilee (which occurred every 50 years), whichever came first.6 In fact, the slave owner was encouraged to "pamper his slave".7

What the New Testament says about slavery

Since many of the early Christians were slaves to Romans,8 they were encouraged to become free if possible, but not worry about it if not possible.9 The Roman empire practiced involuntary slavery, so rules were established for Christians who were subject to this slavery or held slaves prior to becoming Christians. The rules established for slaves were similar to those established for other Christians with regard to being subject to governing authorities.10 Slaves were told to be obedient to their master and serve them sincerely, as if serving the Lord Himself.11 Paul instructed slaves to serve with honor, so that Christianity would not be looked down upon.12

As with slaves, instructions were given to their masters as to how they were to treat their slaves. For example, they were not to be threatened,13 but treated with justice and fairness.14 The text goes on to explain that this was to be done because God is the Master of all people, and does not show partiality on the basis of social status or position.1314

There is an interesting letter in the New Testament (Philemon15-21) that gives some insight into the problems encountered in the early Christian church regarding the issue of slavery. Paul, the author of the letter, is writing from a Roman prison awaiting trial.15 He is writing to Philemon, who runs a local Christian church out of his house16 (since Christianity was highly persecuted at this point in time). Philemon, we find out, is the master of the slave Onesimus, who has escaped but has been converted to Christianity by Paul.18 In the letter, Paul indicates that he is sending Onesimus back to Philemon.19 However, Paul says that he has confidence that Philemon will "do what is proper"17 although Paul wants him to do it by his "own free will".20 Even so, Paul indicates that Onesimus would be a great aid in helping him spread the gospel.19 Paul ends the letter by saying that he has "confidence in your obedience" and indicates that he knows Philemon "will do even more than what I say."21 Although Paul did not directly order Philemon to release Onesimus from slavery, it would have been difficult to come away with any other conclusion from his letter.

God does not distinguish between slaves and freemen

Contrary to the claims of many skeptics, the New Testament proclaims that all people are equal in the eyes of God - even slaves:

  • There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
  • knowing that whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free. (Ephesians 6:8)
  • And masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him. (Ephesians 6:9)
  • a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. (Colossians 3:11)

Conclusion

The idea that God or Christianity encourages or approves of slavery is shown to be false. In fact, anybody who was caught selling another person into slavery was to be executed. However, since voluntary slavery was widely practiced during biblical times, the Bible proscribes laws to protect the lives and health of slaves. Paul, the author of many of the New Testament writings, virtually ordered the Christian Philemon to release his Christian slave from his service to "do what is proper". In addition, numerous verses from the New Testament show that God values slaves as much as any free person and is not partial to anyone's standing before other people.

Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

Some more materail for poor rooitwit to ponder re slavery. wise up rooitwit and cease your rants against the most High who is totally Holy
There is a tendency to look at slavery as something of the past. But it is estimated that there are today over 27 million people in the world who are subject to slavery: forced labor, sex trade, inheritable property, etc. As those who have been redeemed from the slavery of sin, followers of Jesus Christ should be the foremost champions of ending human slavery in the world today. The question arises, though, why does the Bible not speak out strongly against slavery? Why does the Bible, in fact, seem to support the practice of human slavery?

The Bible does not specifically condemn the practice of slavery. It gives instructions on how slaves should be treated (Deuteronomy 15:12-15;Ephesians 6:9;Colossians 4:1), but does not outlaw slavery altogether. Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. What many fail to understand is that slavery in biblical times was very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world. The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race. People were not enslaved because of their nationality or the color of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was based more on economics; it was a matter of social status. People sold themselves as slaves when they could not pay their debts or provide for their families. In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else. Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to have all their needs provided for by their masters.

The slavery of the past few centuries was often based exclusively on skin color. In the United States, many black people were considered slaves because of their nationality; many slave owners truly believed black people to be inferior human beings. The Bible condemns race-based slavery in that it teaches that all men are created by God and made in His image (Genesis 1:27). At the same time, the Old Testament did allow for economic-based slavery and regulated it. The key issue is that the slavery the Bible allowed for in no way resembled the racial slavery that plagued our world in the past few centuries.

In addition, both the Old and New Testaments condemn the practice of “man-stealing,” which is what happened in Africa in the 19th century. Africans were rounded up by slave-hunters, who sold them to slave-traders, who brought them to the New World to work on plantations and farms. This practice is abhorrent to God. In fact, the penalty for such a crime in the Mosaic Law was death: “Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death” (Exodus 21:16). Similarly, in the New Testament, slave-traders are listed among those who are “ungodly and sinful” and are in the same category as those who kill their fathers or mothers, murderers, adulterers and perverts, and liars and perjurers (1 Timothy 1:8–10).

The Bible often approaches issues from the inside out. If a person experiences the love, mercy, and grace of God by receiving His salvation, God will reform his soul, changing the way he thinks and acts . A person who has experienced God’s gift of salvation and freedom from the slavery of sin, as God reforms his soul, will realize that enslaving another human being is wrong. He will see, with Paul, that a slave can be “a brother in the Lord” (Philemon 1:16). A person who has truly experienced God’s grace will in turn be gracious towards others. That would be the Bible’s prescription for ending slavery.

For Becs and others pinning ther hope on the god particle discredited in the article above.read this and look at this clip By prof John Lennox.
Are science and faith really in conflict? In an age when theism and atheism fight for dominance and where the Hawkins and Dawkins take centre stage proclaiming there is no God, Dr. John Lennox believes differently. He says the universe makes no sense if you take God out of the picture or deny he exists. In this video he confronts the issues head on.
In every stage of life, God is interested in being in at the beginning, because God is the Beginner. There is simply no other over-arching truth in all written communication: “In the Beginning, God…” But men have instead invented a myriad of alternative creation stories, and scientists today salivate over the “promise” of the Higgs Boson… The following lecture was given at Proclamation Presbyterian Church by Dr. John Lennox Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford.

No, Beeno, you have never explained...in one short sentence......who created the Creator. A basic question which requires a simple answer.

Secondly, I have never said I am an Atheist. For all you know I could be a Pantheist or practising Buddhist. So, like your Good Book cautions, stop being so judgemental.
I have read the Bible, Beeno. I have read the King James, Old Testament and variations on a theme.....as I keep saying, I have a qualification in Religious History. Would you believe that involved becoming au fait with numerous Religious teachings of every type ? !!
I am also not pinning my hope on anything, Beeno. I don't have much interest in the creation of the Universe. I was merely pointing out to you that it is called the God Particle as a play on words. If anything, the discovery of that actually contradicts your claim that the Creator is the reason why we are here....unless he created the God Particle !! But let the Scientists and Religious Brethren argue that one until the cows come home.I mean, it's not like there is anything important going on in the world that would better suit their attention, is it ????!

Becs logic dictates you cannot have an infinte regression or nothing will exist. That is simple logic that cannot be broken and ended the silliness of the who created God question. On that score it game set and match.
Did you read what I have posted re the god particle. If so you wouldnt be accepting that it expalins away God in any way at all. In fact you would see that all these foolish atheists do is speculate ever more extravagantly making thmeselves look more and more rediculous.
Where actually then do you stand. Your world view is important and will effect what you do in the world and your motivations
You appear to think that the Sacrifice of Christ is of no value. Whether God exists and created the universe is of no concern. Very sad really.

It's amazing how, when people pose certain questions, they are dumb, uneducated, stupid, sinners, etc etc, I have never insulted anyone, I just asked questions, yet I can't say the same of others here
It's also amazing how these evangelists on tv or priests never ever live in a small simple home and drive cheap affordable cars like their weekly church attendees
They always seem to have these fantastic homes and luxury cars, yet they will swear that all they live for is praising God's name, just like our own innocent Ray McCaulay
The hypocrisy is overwhelming
And Beeno, if any just God allows an individual to be born, only to grow up and kill millions of people, while he allows a church going Christian child to drown whilst trying to save a fellow Christian friend from drowning, once you can convince me how that works, and how credible and justifyable that is, then I may start taking you seriously

Beenkop, what kind of pathetic answer is that? Its the answer of an ignorant fool who cant answer the simple question I posed.
What part of me saying that I was not accusing your God of perpetrating any evils do you not get you fucking stupid man.......my question was why your supposed almighty God is not able to save the murder of a new born child.......that very child is not a child of Satan, so dont give me that pathetic lame angle.
Your God according to you pathetic bible bashers is the supreme spirit who's strengths are unrivaled and therefore there is no excuse in the world for him not to save the new born from death if he actually existed.
Now wake the fuck up and answer my question instead of posting all this crap on this thread that not a single poster will read.
You truly are pathetic......as I said there is nothing worse than feeble bible bashers

Sebastien Chabal,
Who do you think you are to call America "false Christians"?Is their such a thing as a genuine Christian. The moment you think you became a genuine Christian is the day you became brain washed to spew up this crap and fill up this board with this drivel.
How can America a population over 1/2 billion be false christians, while you are a genuine Christian? (UTTER CRAP).
What I would suggest it keeping this stuff to yourself, or going and finding a Christian board where you can speak to "genuine" and "false" Christians. Maybe some of them will think you are actually a false christian.
Many non christians believe that Christians are false, or at the very least no better than non-christians.(action speaks louder than words or beliefs). . Your religion even supports this by saying that you can be evil and then at the end of your life beg for forgiveness and get into Heaven.

Both you and Beeno need to keep this board rugby related and stop trying to enforce your own moral beliefs onto other people.  It is the both of you that start these Christian happy clappy threads. People who are not Christian find it is very offensive.Neither of you are able to have a logical argument about morals and ethics, and think you are above everything that is said due to your brain washing.
Stick to rugby, and keep your own opinion about what is right in religion to yourself. No one has asked for your hypocritical moral authority.
How would like you like a Muslim poster or another religion to start hijacking the board, telling everyone that only Muslim is right and everyone else will not get into Heaven, or they are evil etc, etc.

Beeno, I see little logic in most of your posts, particularly those regarding Religion !
As I have said, as with most things in my life, they are my business and my business alone. I do not intend to convert anyone to my Veganism or my thoughts on any other matters that are wholly important and private, unlike yourself.
I have not been convinced by any of your argument about anything here, Beeno. You fail to use your own argument. Simply cutting and pasting or rehashing someone else's thoughts verbatim really does not cut the mustard. Must try harder, in your own words and in a paragraph or two ! You know, what YOU actually think, for a change.

Saffex, I suspect you may get a long copy and paste reply
I always find it funny how when legitimate questions are asked, accusations of ignorance and stupidity are thrown, and the only responses are copy and pasted Bible verses of what that individual was taught or interpreted for themselves, yet if interpreted differently or questioned by someone else.... They are automatically and unequivocally wrong

 Sharkbok

I have no interest in this debate, somewhere further up I've given a reason why, so I'm not going to make any further comment.

Your post titled "Apartheid and Religion" however is of interest to me.

I was aware of the  divisive role the Dutch Reformed Church played  and how it set about justifying Apartheid to the point where a Minister stated for "Non Whites" not to say "Our Father" because God was a white man, I was also aware of the uproar caused by the honorable Dr Beyers Naude a  true Afrikaner who recognized the immorality of his own church and spoke out against it and was then ostracized by both Church and Government for the courage of his convictions.

From a personal point of view and from the movement I was involved in,  Dr Naude became an enormous source of inspiration.

My question to you is, where did you source the history of your post?

Denny this is the article. I found it searching in Google before creating the response.http://countrystudies.us/south-africa/53.htm

I was in standard 8 when my school became multi-racial. Our religion teacher at the time resigned because he would not teach religion to non-whites/ black people.
I remember the Church changing their stance on Apartheid just before the "vote" to become democratic. (At this point my understanding was that it was irreversible). The current government and the Reformed Church sat down and agreed a story which would contradict what was  maintained in the past. I believe religion to be the primary factor in design of apartheid.

Free speech chaps. If Hasbeen and Chabal want to post about their religious beliefs I see no problem with that. If you don't like it, don't open the string. Nobody is being insulted, no identities are being revealed, no families are being insulted. Or should we exclude discussions on rock music as well, because it isn't about rugby.

And while these chaps are being attacked, I see no insights in the attacking material....it's mostly just sarcastic bigotry.

What is this thing South Africans have with censorship?

Mozart you would consider yourself a Christian so these religious beliefs are at least compatible with your own. If that was not the case, perhaps you would see things differently. You say that no one is being offended? Being told that I am going to hell and that Christians are the single correct religion is offensive. (This is hate speech to a non-christian, which by the way does not mean atheism in many cases). I dont see threads started by Muslim or promoting Athiasim- saying that all Christians are going to hell, and are wrong etc.
You do not see insights in people from more than one religion going to heaven? I see Christians saying that everyone goes to hell except them...(sure, God makes a world with thousands of religions, and then kills them all for believing these religions...)I see non-Christians saying that going to heaven is surely decided by the individuals actions, not religious beliefs or convenient associations. (common sense).  The most hostile places on earth are places like the middle East with lots of different religions. If their way/religion are absolute truth, no wonder their is conflict with other religious fanatics cut from the same cloth- but from another religion.
Of the thousands of religions in the world, are you saying that it is logical that only one religion would be correct, and also others go to hell? What type of God would do this. This type of thinking is not compatible with modern day democratic thinking.
How would you feel it was a Muslim poster telling you that what ever you believe is wrong, and they are right?  Or that everyone goes to hell that is not Muslim. That everyone from America is the Devil etc, etc. (Although America has been listed as "false" Christians by a self proclaimed "true" Christian earlier on this post).....
This is just one post of many. Often existing posts that do not mention religion are high-jacked and turned into opportunities for freedom of expression" that non Christians are wrong and go to Hell. This is hate speech.
People have tried to engage them in a sensible conversation, but it is just pointless. The bigotry is from the religious fanatics telling everyone they are wrong, and then the rational people getting irritated trying to converse with them.
I am not of any particular faith other than I do not believe in a personal god.(online definition- Personal gods are those that respond to individual humans and interfere with the universe. An impersonal God would be one that just sits by the sidelines and observes, but doesn't answer prayers, perform miracles, or interfere in any way. This does not mean that I believe in nothing. Many people who believe in science take this view point. Just because I cant prove that God does or does not exist, I still think that their may be an afterlife or a nature life force.
I am decedent of protestants "which means protest against absolute faith" of Catholicism". It is using ones own individual interpretation of life or god to form a relative truth, and not relying on the Pope or Churches absolute faith. Protestants are often linked with the start of the modern world- the beginning of modern day democracy and capitalism. Extensive research has shown that countries and individuals from a protestant background are "generally" smarter and richer than Catholics. (btw protestants are grouped under the Christian faith).Which one is right, or "more"right? I would rather be smarter and richer, and more tolerant to any religion than believe in absolute faith .

I believe in tolerance, and I simply think at this quiet time, a bit of reflection by religious posters is not the end of the world....no pun intended.

valid point, sometimes any debate especially religion and politics can start of in fun but get a bit too heated... I did not however take you as sometime that was intolerant, in general or religiously.
My biggest gripe with any religion is that they claim only their followers go to heaven, are on the "true path while other religions are wrong etc. (intolerance).

mozart

I am not sure if you have been reading the same thread as me and others on here

Of course people have been insulted and families mentioned.

Just a few quotes from above...

"I also agree that Atheism is the most stupid position to hold, but also being agnostic"

"Only a complete obstinate fool would conclude there is no god"

"Becs you should not rely on your erring mum"

"Isn't it time to stop being a fool"

"Sharkbok the truth is unless you receive the pardon offered By Jesus Christ and are born again you will definitely not enter the kingdom of God"

"Becs, all Atheists suffer from a form of insanity"

"Realising you are a fool is the first step in the process"

According to Beeno all atheists are fools and are insane at times, Becs should not listen to her mother, who Beeno has decided is wrong in her ways, and poor Sharkbok is doomed to eternal flames for the rest of his existence.

Never mind all the others.

I have no issue at all with this thread, that's why I decided to involve myself in it.

What I do have an issue with is when posters ask their own relevant questions, then sarcastic insults come back, with no hint of open debate, just.... you are stupid if you don't believe in the same thing I do.

I for one accept any person's religion, and I make no judgements on it provided they don't try and shove another religion down my throat when at the same time they cannot answer some simple questions I have depending on the religion.

Look at ISIS for example, who now claim that the Koran / Quran says you are allowed to rape an underage girl, and keep slaves, which they have done to thosands of Yazidi woman

I see that as how they interpret what their prophet says, not what Islam could mean as a whole, so I would have questions for that religion as well.

Look at this below link, and it is factual, confirmed by the FBI, just look at the 27 questions and answers they sent out to all their members.

ISIS Pamphlet

The reason I am posting this is to illustrate that my enquiring minds likes to question everything, not just one particular religion or state of being.

These events are very sad, we struggle to make sense of them. This one is particularly crushing, because a simple decision to delay the flight seemed justified.

But interpreting events, even scientifically, is up for debate. When I was at UCT, the Argus published an article showing a car struck from behind by another car with a consecutive number plate....the very next number. The Argus headline said a one in a million chance. I wrote a letter to the paper demonstrating the odds of those two cars crashing were much higher. Another reader then replied, showing the odds for any two consecutive cars crashing....which were much lower.. A huge debate followed involving many readers and eventually the editor said he would accept no more letters on the subject.

And of course we were both right, but answering different questions. Religion is so much more complex, so misunderstandings are rife. That makes it very hard to discuss in this format.

HasBeen and Chabal are committed Christians....they have no choice but to give voice to that, given what they believe. A little sensitivity might be called for, but given none of us knows the answer, I'm not going to ridicule the beliefs of others. We live in confusion and come to realize many of the things we held as self evident.....aren't.

We'll said Moz. People have belief systems & if they are different from mine that is fine by me as long as they don't harm others.
On matters of faith I have been very involved in the Anglican Church in my time, even served on the vestry. The "church" is an institution these days & not just about faith. On events & probability , I have had more than one positive event involving my wife & kids ( their lives being saved) that you would have to put under the heading of miracles as the chances of them happen were so very low. I have no explanation for these events but am eternally grateful.
So rave on religious zealots, fine by me  just don't get so wound up you hurt others.

And Beeno, if any just God allows an individual to be born, only to grow up and kill millions of people, while he allows a church going Christian child to drown whilst trying to save a fellow Christian friend from drowning, once you can convince me how that works, and how credible and justifyable that is, then I may start taking you seriouslyOu DA is completely at sea here once again. So do you think these two Christians enjoying the amazing experience of Heaven regret their departure from planet earth!!! Not for a nano second.Th idea that Christains must be poor is not actaully biblical. Abraham for example was very wealthy as was Job etc etc. Solomon stupendously so. All sorts of people get saved rch and poor. Wealth used ciorrectly is a great blessing. Personally I think extremely opulent living is a waste of resources for a believer.

Snapster this is the consequence of manking rejecting Gods rule. Sin and death entered the world at that point. Being subjects of Satan  mankind suffers.  When you make a choice there are consequences. Mankind as a whole apart, from the redeemed live in the kingdom of darkness. If a Christain dies it is the end of all his troubles. In sin was I conceived in my mother womb. We are a fallen race. Snapster you should stop finding reason to rail against a Holy, lovng God faultless in all Hs ways and imputing evil to Him. If you doubt Gods love look at the cross. That is the price God paid to redeem us from satans rule. There are even more horrific days ahead where evil will abound even more and the love of many will grow cold - because of this evil. However God will intervene and bring it all to an end.
Snapster just stop making all these excuses and seek God while you still can.
The basic reason of course for man not seeking God is that they do not want God's rule. Then they complain about the wages they receive from Satan and worse still start accusing God of evil and imputing to God the works of Satan.
Hence there will be a judgment. Satan and his demons and all of mankindetc. Justice will be served. How will YOU fare on that day. That is the question you should concentrate on rather than railing against God.

BECS Christ said go out into all the world and preach the Gospel. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. We will not keep this good news to ourselves nor will we be silenced just because the truth makes some uncomfortable. All of us are on the brink of eternity and you need to hear this more than anything else. His followers have done that throughout the ceneturies and ALWAYS will. Christ will build His Church and the gates of hell will NOT prevail against Him. THIS WAS NEVER MENT TO BE PRIVATE!!!!!!!!!This is not a mere matter like being a vegan etc!!!!!Today we are bombarded by atheistic blabbering and folk are badly brainwashed. Like Seb I was also. You asked who created God. I demolished that question  by pointing out you cannot have an infinite regression and expect anything to exist as the you would never reach an original cause. That logic is unbreakab le and has ended the who created God nonsense. God is eternal just as the bible proclaims. You are an historian you say. Well historeians quote things all the time. They have of course to ackn owledge their source. I know this as I did a history major myself.I post material here answering objections and helping people to understand that the atheistic viewpoint is pure folly. Nothing wrong with that.

Well you do realise you are saying that God the Son is a perpatrator of hate speech as he said NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY HIM.Instaed of trying to stir up anti Christain feeling sharkbok what youshoud examine is Whether Christ is right.
Be assure that Christ is the WAY THE TRUTH AND LIFE. NOBODY COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY HIM. ALSO BE VERY SURE THERE WILL BE A JUDGEMENT AND GOD WILL PUNISH SIN.How do you stand sharkbok.Well again I must assure you all have sinned. Yoiu have and the bible pronounces you gulity even beforeyou arrive at the judgemnt throne of Christ. But rthe good news sharkbok is that if you repnt and trun to Gid you can be forgiven. This dispite all your railings against God. I mean how generous and kind is that!! Amazing love that saved a wretch like me sang slave trader John Newton. John had been a godless man and sank into inhuman slave trading - anying becomes possible interm of depravity for the Godless. When he realised this he realised what a wretch he was. Of course once he got saved he stopped slave trading. Something for poor rooitwit to consider.
According to Beeno atheists are fools. Sharkbok do you actually read what I say. Gods Word declares that the FOOL HAS SAID IN HIS HEART THERE IS NO GOD. I am simply in hearty agreement. God is calling atheists fools. Dont shoot the messenger boet!

I believe that it is true the Springboks have been on the receiving end of some dodgy calls since re-admission to international rugby, perhaps more so than some other teams.I think it is possible that because the Springboks are regularly and unfairly dubbed bullies because of the physical nature of the way they play the game, there is a stigma or perception that has attached itself to them.Cloudy the rreal remedy is to stop cheating agaisntthe Boks. This cheating has been noted by various jounalists and is patently obvious. There can be no doubt left nw tha tOZ and nz arein cahoots in thsi cheating arrangment. Witness waht happened in the test in OZ. Withness Mcaaaw putting in a hihgh tackle on Louw that put him out of the game andcost us the matc. The list is endless. The solution is for action to be taken against the cheaters. Talk about us showing more resilience etc is just palin DUMB - we do all those things in any cae to a remarkable degree. Get to the root of the matter. Take action against the likes of mcaaaw etc etc. Sorry to mention wee mcaaaw but id the hat f its wear it.

Rubbish Beeno

The fact is, if someone wanted or needed to find their own God or Creator, they would at some point go and seek him / her out,  on their own.... without your constant hounding to do so.

This constant bashing from you merely instigates more antaganism towards christianity because as per usual, like many others, you bring it across in a very forthright, and with some points, insulting way, because somebody believes differently to you.

If that is God's plan for you, try adjusting your or his approach, because I don't see it as being very successful with people with other beliefs.... based on the responses on this board alone.

Who knows, in the greater scheme of things maybe you have been, but this constant bashing and promoting gets too much, and if you truly knew that your actions were turning some people more against what you really believe by saying and doing what you do, then you would stop in a heartbeat...... surely?

Thanks Dr Moz these atheists are always trying to shut us up. They work very hard in universities trying to get rid of believers. Censorship is their game. Denny if you dont like this thread do what they say in the classics and "piss off": There's a good chap!
Unfortunately the internet has been their undoing. For all its faults one benefit has been atheistic views have been taken on and man are they receiving a severe beating.
I have of course to dof my hat to science which has so progressed to catch up to the biblical view. Atheists are now easy meat. Once there was nothing and now there is something. There had to be an original cause. God. A God of enormous power and inteliigence etc. The God of the bible fits that exactly. Thanks science for all the good work.By the way Becs I do hope you realise the god particle etc is not nothing and neither is time or space. When you include things like this youare not proving a universe from nothing. I trust you read the article I posted. Its game set and match to the creationists.
